Bottle. Poured a thick white head, dark brown and opaque liquid. Good aroma, but taste was a bit a bit sour. A little syrupy, not unpleasant, but the aftertaste was not good at all.

Not much aroma, which isn't necessarily bad. It least it didn't smell horrible! Excellent taste and mouthfeel. Beautiful dark coffee color with a nice tan/brown head.

Draft at the rye house NYC. Deep black color. Malty slight booze. No scotch really. Drank like an old ale

Picked up a bottle in a mix six in WI. Average beer - light on complexity and nothing noteworthy to remember after finishing the bottle.

bottle @ John’s Grocery / Iowa City IA --- Opaque dark brown color, 2" tan head that slowly drops, bubbly curtain of lace. Taste is rich roasted caramel malt that stays true to itself, the flavor intensifying as it moves through the palate to a lightly bittered finish with the malt lingering for a long time. Really big and fantastic for 5.2%, a terrificly executed brew.

Reddish, rusty scotch ale with lots of malt, sharp yeast and hops. Some bitterness in fine tuned balance with the roasted chocolate malt.

Bottle from Sonoma Cellars, picking up at 6 for my other brother. Pours a root beer color with a bit of a brown head. No lacing. Aroma has sweet caramelly malts, brown sugar, some peat and some cherry. Taste is of sweet caramel, some light sweet berries - mostly cherry - and peat. Medium bodied. Finishes sweetly and somewhat sticky. Reasonable for style; not terrific overall.

Pours a dark reddish brown, not too far from black color with a small but well retained head that leaves a nice lacing on the glass.

The aroma is malty, it’s got a nice toasty character, some red apple & some nice caramel. It’s got a touch of booziness to the nose, but never really comes across as a terribly sweet smelling.

The flavor is big on the malt & booze in a similar way to how the aroma is. It’s got a tastiness, some rich caramel, & some lightly tart fruit most particularly red apple. It pulls off the malt forward thing while staying far away from cloying sweetness, which is a charming touch. For a beer of 5.2% alcohol this one really comes across considerably boozier than it is, which is a real pity as it sort of throws off the balance of an otherwise very pleasant beer.

12 oz. bottle. Pretty good. Aroma is fairly sweet, very malty, earthy, cereally, and caramel/toffee. Flavor is similar, very malty sweet, caramel again, but a bit of dryness does show up here. Finish is fairly short and again, sweet. Palate is very nice, a very light and fine carbonation that fits with the style. Overall a good beer for the style, even if that style is a bit sweet for my tastes.
