Gravity cask @ Reading Beer Festival 2006. Amber coloured. Nutty fruity malt. Some bitterness. Unexceptional flavours but works together quite well.

Bottle: Copper coloured, lots of floaties, small foamy layer; shy fruity-malty with a very shy whiff of hops; light to moderate bitter-sweet flavour, light bodied; mild, a bit watery, sweetish-fruity finish. Drinkable, no glory..........

Cask Stillage at the Civic Hall, Nantwich 30/09/2006 Malt and a little fruit aroma. Amber coloured with some sour fruit flavour. Full malt finish.

Gravity at Reading beer festival 2006. Ruddy colour. Copper notes and watery berry. Not offensive, but not much of anything.

Cask conditioned - gravity dispense - Reading BF. A reddy brown coloured beer. The aroma is slightly fruity. The taste is clean with berry fruits. Very English (even though it’s Welsh). OK.

Cask Conditioned at Reading BF 2006. Red coloured. Aroma typical of British bitters. Earthy taste, very boring. Poor.

Cask @ Reading 06: Amber. Fruity berries, dry malts. Balanced, tasty bitter.

Ceredigion Barcud Coch
500ml bottle (bottle conditioned) from Orchard Hive & Vine. Another Red Kite beer. Deepish copper colour. Retains some head. Very little aroma, maybe a little grassy hop but very difficult to grasp. Citric and fairly bitter with a dry malt backbone. Lingering aftertaste with citric build. Overall - Clean, crisp and thirst quenching. The lack of aroma lets it down. (5/4/7/4/12)

Black Isle Organic Red Kite
500ml bottle (filtered but unpasteurised?) from Booths, Clitheroe. Copper colour. No head, just a thin collar of bubbles. Not much condition. The only one of the bunch that had a really distinctive aroma - sweet hops, resiny and flowery. Fruity and citric (orange/lime) on the palate, but a bit lacking in bitterness. Short finish. Overall- More aroma than the rest but could do with a bit more grip on the palate. (7/3/6/3/12)

Highgate Englands Glory
500ml bottle (pasteurised) from Booths, Clitheroe. Deep amber colour. Fair sized, lasting, fluffy head. Slightly hazy (?). Some prickle on the tongue. Not much aroma - some bready malt with sweaty edges. Fruity flavour with lemony touches. Slightly sweet. Not very bitter. Overall - Easy drinking with a restrained bittersweet feel. (5/3/6/3/11)

Cwmbran Crow Valley Bitter
500ml bottle from Beers of Europe. Big, fluffy beige head that lasts. Deep amber colour. Virtually devoid of aroma. Very dry and quite bitter. Some citrus. Not much depth to the flavour. Finish falls away into a thin astringency. Slightly thin mouthfeel. Overall - a rather nondescript traditional bitter. (5/4/6/2/10)

Wychwood Englands Ale
500ml bottle from Sainsburys. Hazy (?). No head, just a fine rim of bubbles. Some condition on the tongue. Coppery colour. Not a lot of aroma - slight hints of smoky malt. Quite dry on the palate with some citric notes and moderate bitterness. Manages to be soft and sharp (but not unpleasantly so) at the same time on the finish. Overall - an easy drinking basic bitter with no outstanding features. (6/3/6/4/12)

Thwaites Thoroughbred
500ml bottle (pasteurised) from Wragges, Shaw. Pale amber colour (lightest of the six). No head to speak of. Restrained aroma. Slightly malty with touches of caramel and earthy hop. Cardboardy notes develop as it warms up. Assertive bitterness on the palate with some lemon accents. Falls away a bit on the finish. Overall - Clean and easy drinking but nothing really grabs the attention.(5/3/6/3/11)

Bottle conditioned, 500 ml. Dark amber with lasting head. Malty beer with a ctirusy fruitiness. Hoppy finish with a dry leafy note, crisp and interesting. The label is rather nmore attractive than this picture, a well presentd beer.

Bottle. Slightly malty profile. A bit too watery for my liking, disappointing
