UPDATED: MAY 5, 2011 from Drinks of the World, Bern - clear very dark brown colour under a solid persistent dark beige foam; roasted aroma of black chocolate, medium-bodied, sweet and tart with a corny and pretty harsh finish where more chocolatey notes come up - cheap

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Very dark-ruby coloured, stable mid-sized creamy tanned head. Sweetish dark- and toast-malty nose with some fruity overtones. Light to moderate sweetish-bitter flavour, light bodied. Light sourish-fruity finish with a bitter touch in the aftertaste. O.K., not really exciting.............

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottled. A black beer with a thin long-lasting off-white head and a touch of lacing. The aroma is thin; with alittle light roast a touch of milk and a touch of smoke permeating through the wateriness. The taste is a little lactic, with a touch of roast and a smooth fruitiness. A reasonable stout but nothing special.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
(33cl bottle) Clear, opague colour with a medium-sized beige foamy head. Discreet aroma: slightly sweet and roasty malty nose with light notes of chocolate and caramel. Sweet and slightly sourish flavour, medium to light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Earthy dark and roasted malt-character with a touch of chocolate and very subtle fruity notes; moderately dry and roast-bitter finish with shades of toffee and chocolate. Lacks depth, but is otherwise drinkable (21.XI.08).

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle at my hotel in Cascais - April ’12.
Pours a mid black colour with a tan brown head that soon departed. Reddish/Brown when held to the light.
Not a lot doing on the nose ! A touch of roasted malt and maybe, just maybe some fruit !!!
Sweet malty in taste not a lot else.
Carbonation OK - easily drinkable and a change from the low grade lagers on offer, but never going to set the world alight. If that were the case this would be a suitable stout to put the fire out!!!

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle. Aromas are very sweet and malty - lots of sugar. Chocolate and Ovaltine with some roast character. Flavours are sweet chocolate and coffee malts. Malty, yet sweet and somewhat thin. Some cola character. Pretty average.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Sample at the Eurostash II tasting on 12/12/09: This beer is a nearly opaque brown-black with a medium tan head that dissipates steadily. Thin rings of lacing. Roasted malt in the nose with notes of chocolate. Medium, smooth body with flavors of chocolate malt, caramel and a bit of sour fruit. The finish is roasty with a short malt aftertaste. Not sure if they were shooting for a Bock or a Stout, but it is just average overall.

2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Fast gone foxy-cream head, over deep dark red-brown beer. Perfumed chocolatey nose, like praliné or chocolate filling with spirit or liqueur; maybe some wood. Dry, near-woody flavour, but rather watery finish. Very dry malts, lots of water, near no roasted notes. Warming up, acquires syrupy sweetness. Bit sticky MF, medium bodied at best. Not very stout, and too sweet - even for a Dunkel.
