0.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 otakuden (1490) - Vero Beach, USA - OCT 23, 2010
He filled my glass in clear light straw and I mean light, while his white head disappears in a flash. No exuberant carbonation which could be a good thing and without further ado I savor his nose of cheap wet grains, wonderbread, and old lemons. Ok, maybe savor isn’t quite the right word. Let me see…how about curdle in fear, much like the curdled essence his nose has going for it. For such a dank rank nose, his palate was surprisingly without. Wonderbread creaminess for his mouthfeel while lemon zaps the top of my tongue…and then nothing. I am grateful for his lack of rank in the palate, but the little bit of wonderbread and lemon that is there disappears so fast it might as well not even try. Quaff, repeat, and that is all he wrote. The rest of my glass (like the Cusquena before it) went down the kitchen sink.
0.9 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20 Boutip (3294) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 20, 2010
Bottle: Poured a super light yellow color lager with a tiny bubbly head with not much retention and no lacing. Aroma of light adjunct is quite bland. Taste is incredibly bland with light ginger ale feel and almost no malt. Body is incredibly thin with almost no body and medium carbonation.
1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20 Spab (1118) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 17, 2010
330 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a clear light yellow/gold with small white head. Very mild aroma, slightly grainy but not skunky or corny. Taste is similarly muted - grainy, slightly corny and a light sweetness. Poor, but not as bad as some of the LCBO’s pale lagers.
2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Sammy (5885) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 16, 2010
Another pale lager finding its way into the LCBO. Pours light yellow with a crown of white. Neutral aroma, a bit of malt. Initial swallow is malty, middling mouthfeel. Very undrinkable, a little minerally. Uninteresting.Carbonation a bit aggressive.
1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20 rederic (2269) - montréal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 8, 2010
330ml bottle, bright pale yellow color, with an of-white head, mild wet cereal, pale, pilsener malt nose, with a hint of hay in the aroma follows through on a light-bodied palate with a crisp light honeyed pale malt cereal character with a hint of vanilla and a subtle flowery hop grassy hoppiness, leading towards a faint lingering leafy hop bitterness finish. A big tasteless beer!
1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 SanfordBrewer (1205) - Sanford, Florida, USA - OCT 7, 2010
Lucent gold, thin but dense white head, very effervesent, medium body but leaves an oily residue on the palate, medium carbonation.
Aroma: pale malt, adjunct (pocorn or corn oil), and a slight bready note.
Taste: pizza dough, corn oil, and a faint hop bitterness.
Surprisingly not skunked or stale. It’s not good, by any means, but it became much more tolerable once i got my mind to switch the flavor association from corn oil to popcorn. May go well with soft corn tacos or tomales.
