A very basic beer that is easy to drink. Very much like any larger you may have had not much more to say. A week of this and I just want hops please.

1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
12 oz. Pours pale straw with tall, long lasting, fluffy, white head and lively carbonation. Aroma is of grassy hops and pale malt. Body is light and crisp. Pale malt and some hops combine on the palate. Finish is short, barely noticeable. Standard macro crap.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Clear yellow color with a quickly disappearing fizzy white head. Nose of corn and tin can, even though it came out of a bottle. Relatively clean and crisp international lager. Some white sugar sweetness, light toast, a bit of corn, and a bit of grass in the finish. Water is a big part of the flavor. Interchangeable macro lager.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 14/20
I’ve drank so many generic pale lagers from all over the world, I never really expect them to be more than tolerable. But in the case of Cerveza Imperial, a pale lager for a Costa Rican brewery, it’s actually pretty decent. It’s sweeter, cleaner-tasting and easier to drink than the average adjunct lager from the average country. Not that it’s world class, though; it’s just better than most of its class, otherwise it’s an average pale lager.
I poured a 12oz bottle into a tumbler glass. It had an expiration date of 4/30/16 and cost $1.79 ($0.15 per ounce).
Appearance: Dark golden hue with a crystal clarity and carbonation always visible. Pours to a thumb-width, white, foamy head which retains and laces pretty well.
Smell: A slight skunky scent; otherwise mildly sweet light grain aroma. No hops. No apparent adjuncts or flaws.
Taste: I went into this beer expecting the worse, but was pleasantly surprised to find it not only drinkable – but actually flavorful. The first thing I noticed was how sweet the palette is. There’s probably sugar added to the brew to create for this affect, or possibly some kind of natural flavor additive. It’s not quite as distinctive and chewy as that of a true pilsner, but it’s so much cleaner than a generic adjunct lager. There doesn’t appear to be corn in the brew, though rice might be used (which would explain the sweetness). I detect a sweet honey flavor on the backend and just a faint bite of floral/spicy hops. I wish more macro lagers tasted this good.
Drinkability: The mouthfeel is a little thicker and softer than I expected. While plenty carbonated, it is not spastically so. Light crispness throughout with a clean aftertaste. Somewhat refreshing while in the mouth. At only 4.6% ABV, Cerveza Imperial is arguably sessionable - considering the country of origin and their target demographic – it’s probably meant to be.

12 fl oz bottle into tulip. Very sweet malt/bread nose, a little pepper. Clear pale amber beer with fluffy white head. Very little carbonation. Slight zing on the tongue, a bit of body. Finish is bitter, sour, vegetal. Not the best, not the worst.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Poured from a 12 OZ bottle into a pint glass at the World of Beer in Kennesaw, GA. This is a straw colored beer with moderate carbonation. The flavor is standard AAL with no bad aftertaste. An ok session beer.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
12 ounce bottle. Pale straw and carbonation similar to American macro. Light malt nose. Very mild grain taste with almost no flavor. Clean finish. A beer you drink for the effects en masse rather than the flavor.

Golden pour right from the can. Taste is a mild blend of hops, mat, grain and barley. Overall better than I expected.
