Sample at C’est What - poured a chestnut colour with a creamy mocha head. Spicy, earthy, bready aromas. Like Sweet, but a bit of spiciness (not overpowering) from the rye and an additional complexity from the caraway are quite interesting. Lighter on the palate than expected. Nice beer.

Red-brown with lasting head and lacing. Mild nose is almost minty. Taste is sweet and not rye-like in character or texture. The caraway changes the flavor profile quite a bit without being detectable. Smooth, soft mouthfeel.

Draft at CW. Brown body with a small off white head. Mild, malty aroma with very light fruit notes and a touch of grains, muted notes of musty basement and very tiny hints of chocolate. Flavour is fairly malty, toasty grains with a well balanced bitterness and moderate amounts of what I attribute to be rye. Average but smooth palate. Simple but quite pleasant, this is designed for quaffability rather than a massive flavour. Supposedly they have reformulated to include some caraway. Will not knock your socks off but you could drink a few.

Tap at C’est what? Dark auburn almost copper with a half finger of white fizz. Nose is quite spicy and floral and hints at vanilla, grains and brown sugar. Taste is sweet roasted grains with spicy rye and bready, hoppy undertones. Quite flavourful in the finish with good astringency. I could drink this one all day.

Tap at brewpub. Red and clear. Very faint aromas. Taste fruit wine and creamy grain flavors, good full texture, like a very sweet ESB, some sticky caramel finish with noble hop, dusty and woody herbal spice.

Reddish amber color, off white foamy head, slight rye aroma, rye and hoops flavor, medium carbonation, medium finish. Not bad for an exotic beer.

[460-20070727] Tap @ C’est What (Toronto, ON). Malty grain aroma with some hidden sweetness. Clear, dark red brown body with a medium-lasting creamy off-white head. Smooth malty grain flavour, supposedly some caraway hidden away somewhere. Medium-full body. Very nice, a little boring but well blended.

A nice reddish brown ale with a thin off white head. A nice caramel aroma with butterscotch notes. In mouth, a light caramel malt with sweet notes, a bit buttery. On tap at C’est What, March 21, 2009.

piscator34 (1644) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - MAY 9, 2009
On draft at C’est What. Dark brown in colour with low carbonation. Somewhat subdude aromas of light malt, caraway seeds, and a hint of berry fruit. Flavors are of more caraway, malted rye, and a hint of minty German hops. Quite drinkable, but not quite the liquid rye bread beverage I was hoping for.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a dark brownish amber. has a nutty and spicy aroma. Flavor is sweet and has nuts. The rye emerges in this, but is not overpowering.
