Rastacouere (5343), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Aug 10, 2008 Objectively speaking:
Not terribly sweet, but still candy like black ale.
I like:
Aromatic, strongly nutty first impression. Powdery, chocolatey sweetness is aptly balanced by the nut skin astringency.
I dislike:
Nothing approaches fruitiness in the flavour profile. Timid body size all along. Discreet carbonation. Short-lasting finish. JoeMcPhee (3807), Jackson Heights, New York, USA Apr 8, 2008 Tap at C’est What. Pitch black with a creamy brown nitro head. Aroma is loaded with rich chocolatey notes. Very cocoaish and lightly milky as well. Very creamy texture... hazelnut only shows up on the end and it definitely plays second fiddle to the chocolate. Flavours are loaded with sweet milk chocolate, a kiss of roastiness on the back as well. Sweet and lightly caramelly in the middle. As it begins to warm, the nuttiness picks up and comes into balance with the chocolate. Nice brew. Radek Kliber (3332), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 2, 2007 On tap at Cest What
Appearance :Mocha dark with small very fine creamy beige crown. Nose :neat, roast like touches with plenty of chocolate malts .6+ Flavour/Palate : Medium light bodied. Not to complex, mainly streamlined chocolate character shown. Lacking warming alcohol wrap that would enhance richness of this brew.
HogTownHarry (3267), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Oct 7, 2007 Draught. At C’est What Beer thing September 2007. Nearly opaque black pour, decent frothy brown head. Dry chocolate/nutty roast malt aroma, light herbal hops, coffee - soft and appealing. The taste seemed a lot like Nestle Quik with added hazelnut - a tad sweet, a bit like a Lindt truffle bar. Light, smooth, silky body, mild carbonation at best, a sweet cocoa linger. Very good indeed. jerc (3212), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 19, 2007 Draft @ Cest What, nitro dispense. Very dark brown-black body with a small creamy chocolate milk head. (3+) Modestly roasty aroma, mocha, very mild hazelnut. Sweet malty flavour is fairly mild with just a touch of the mocha hazelnut roast. Smooth average palate. Pleasant, but does not make me crave another.
