Oakes (8058), gone rambling, Vietnam Oct 19, 2001 Underneath the nitrogen ’blanket’ there is a fantastic mild just waiting to break out. You get hints of wonderfully complex malt, chocolate, toast, and a dash of hop in the finish. Considering that this is made at Durham, the cask ale specialists, I can see no logical reason why they wouldn’t serve this on hand-pump. If they did, my ratings would undoubtedly jump. tiggmtl (4307), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Nov 26, 2006 Big round butterscotch and caramel aroma with plenty of chocolate apparent also. Opaque brown body is topped by a decent sized nitro tan head that lasts throughout and coats the glass. Mildly fruity flavour has some butterscotch and caramel along with bitter sweet chocolate, roast and a light saltiness in the aftertaste. Medium body is quite slick with soft, bland, nitro carbonation. Sampled on tap at the brewpub. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 4, 2004 Roasty, a mild version of the coffee porter. One of my mates politely didn’t like these color beers, but other found it was an easy drink. Nice foam on mid brown Radek Kliber (3930), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Oct 20, 2002 I like this beer , it was creamy with strong notes of toffe . HogTownHarry (3922), Toronto (Harbourfront), Ontario, Canada Jan 25, 2006 Updated: Jan 26, 2006Draught. At C’est What, shared with blankboy. Lord this is dark - looks a lot like their Chocolate Ale, deep clear almost opaque brown with a decent creamy tan head. Aroma of smoke, bacon, chocolate and bitter hops - taste is quite bitter, dark chocolate and bitter hops, starts somewhat sweet and lightly roasty, finishes quite bitter. This has a creamy nitro mouthfeel, astringent, flat and thick. Pretty nice, unexpectedly dark and roasty. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jul 14, 2003 August 2000 - brown ale, Very roasty, almost a coffee (?) like quality to it. Not something I would order on a regular basis. CapFlu (3480), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Mar 10, 2006 (Draught) Pint at the bar. Pours a very lightly carbonated, deep brown body with little head. Nose of roasted malt and mild jerky. The flavour is nutty and very malted with a hint of hops in the finish. Tastes more of a Nut Brown Ale than a Mild; but hey... blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 26, 2006 Draught at C’est What, shared with HogTownHarry. Pours a clear, very dark, ruby-brown with a creamy light-brown head. Aroma of chocolate, bacon bits and some mild hops. Yes, bacon bits. In a good way. Flavour of chocolate, some nuts, malt and a hoppy aftertaste. Pretty good for a Mild Ale but overall it’s just O.K.
