COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The history of Cesu beer can be traced back to the thirteenth century when a beer brewery was founded right in Cesu castle. The chronicles of the year 1590 present evidence for the popularity of the particular beer brewery at the time. Due to the new factory in Cesis the new beer corresponds to nowadays demands while preserving the flavour of natural beer.

500ml can. Pours light gold with a thin, frothy head. Aroma is really strong corn with a tiny bit of lemon. Taste has a minerally start with corn on the bitter finish.

Bottle from the Baltic Supermarket on the Narborough Rd, Leicester. Gusher- unusual for a clear-bottled lager. My Latvian isn’t too clever, but I think this is also unpasteurised. Brilliant gold with barely a bubble of carb and an uneven tuft of foam. Decent hay and pine on nose; hutch, a little lemon jelly. Pleasant grassy lager with soft condition, bread stick and beeswax notes, rubber hints. Slightly pilsener-like in the finish with a bitterness that lingers. Has that slightly mineral edge I remember all draught Latvian beer having in Riga, irrespective of style. Decent lager.

Can, from an ethnic foodstore in Scunthorpe. Gold, thin shortlived white head and low condition. Low trace malt in the nose, gentle grainy sweetness tinged with a slight tinny note in the mouth, some melon fruitiness and a lingering hop bitterness in the finish.

Bottle from shop on Rookery Rd, Handsworth. Perfectly pleasant pale lager. Crisp and refreshing with a few herbal notes. The odd moment of plastic corn, but generally hit the spot.

Bottle. Pale golden beer with a light frothy head. The aroma is malty and mildly dry, and the flavour is bitter with a malty, sugary and roasted finish. Overall much better than I was expecting, a reasonable malty and dry lager style beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma is grainy malt and grassy hops. The taste is sour malt with a strangely dry and harsh bitterness in the aftertaste. You also get a sticky sweetness in the mouth. Boring!

Can. Limited edition rock ’n’ fun can. Hazy gold on colour with a thin foam. Aromas are grain, corn and butter with traces of apricot and lemon. Flavours are sweet grain with sugar and stewed apple and some citrus. Dry with some soap to finish. Wish I could have had it colder than my fridge could manage. Nice colourful can, though.

Draught at Hanza Hotel, Riga. Pale yellow, decent white head. Vegetable aroma. Weak bread and vegetable flavor, with a quite pleasant spicy hoppy finish.
