3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6728) - Antwerpen, - AUG 18, 2004
Light amber beer with slight greenish shine; huge yellow head, dense, collapsing and leaving lace. Initial powerful vanilla-like smell, touch woody and some solvent; then a nose as from grapefruit, and lots of citrussy hops. Bitter taste, but more than just hops. Also some roasted malts and burnt caramel (this characteristic was there already in the original Crombe version - the Strubbe seems more and better hopped). There is a slight-sourish, citrussy component, as much part of the taste as from the mouthfeel. Light bodied. Surprisingly well-hopped, and the grapefruit touch makes me wonder whether these might be American hops... Again! I seem to like the Strubbe version better than the Crombe. I’ll have to try the "Strubbe" kriek after all.

33cl bottle from Dranken Geers. Clear amber, big frothing huge head. Once I’d got rid of the carbonation so that I could drink it. It had a hop aroma on the foam. Decent standard blond ale with some good hop some hay, some ok pale malts, not too yeasty. Drinkable enough.

Bottle, thx to fonefan. Clear, amber pour with a dense, beige head on top. Vegetable stock, quite umami-ish, meat and a quite fruityness in the aroma. Sweetness, stock and fruityness in the flavor, meaty umami as well. Medium sweetish mouthfeel. A strange one, boring in a way, but with an interesting twist. (080412)
