Cask - Coach and Horses, Norwich. Chestnut coloured with a foamy, slightly off-white head. Nice, sweet aroma of butterscotch and caramel with occasional hints of fruits. The flavours are more heavily fruity, and an unappealing ’off’ taste between the initial fruitiness and the lightly bitter malt finish. Quite lacking in any real bitterness. Smooth mouthfeel, but quite heavy.

Cask at Coach and Horses, Norwich. A brown/amber coloured pour with a decent fluffy white head on top. This was clearly a very fresh pint. Sweet fruity aroma. Tastes of dark fruit, caramel, quite sweet, malty a little thin.

UPDATED: JAN 10, 2011 Cask at the Coach & Horses, Norwich, England.
Clear dark brown colour with small off-white head. Wood, nuts and mild hops in aroma. Flavour is roasted malt added to wood, nuts and mild hops.

Rodders (137) - Norwich, Norfolk, ENGLAND - MAR 3, 2009
(Pint from Cask at the Coach and Horses, Norwich) I definately had the dreadnaught, but the beer I had doesn’t sound anything like the beer everyone seems to be describing. Mine looked brown, amber with an average size head that lasted. Smell was minimal and malty with not much else. Taste was quite bitter for a bitter, roasty with a little sweetness backing it up. Not really any fruit like that which has been previously described. Not bad, a little boring, with a kind of soapiness that seems to persist in all Chalk Hill beers.

Ethereal (2399) - Los Angeles, California, USA - DEC 27, 2007
Cask at the Coach & Horses, Norwich, 27th Dec 2007. Chestnut with a small foamy head. Aroma is earth and tree bark. Flavour of sweet malts and a bit of honey. Clings to the mouth and lacks bitterness. Bit thin too. Chalk Hill’s worst beer in my opinion.

Cask handpull at Coach & Horses, Norwich. Chestnut with lasting beige head. Again slightly buttery, toffee. More malty fruit, rich fruits of the forest. Bit sickly. Tastes like the malts haven’t been brewed out. Some minimal hop presence on end. Really sickly raspberry ripple flavour hangs on.

Cask Handpump at the New Oxford, Salford 04/05/2007 Floral and slightly fruity aroma. Mid brown amber coloured strong and a little rich on the palate. Fruity with a crisp and slightly bitter malt finish.
