Ethereal (869), London, Greater London, England Dec 27, 2007 Cask at the Coach & Horses, Norwich, 27th Dec 2007. Dark caramel colour with not much head. Very little aroma. Good flavour of burnt sugar, caramel, chocolate and roasted malt. Smooth mouthfeel but very ’front of the mouth’ taste and not a long finish. Definitely high strength for a mild! omhper (10393), Stockholm, Sweden Aug 10, 2006 [Cask at GBBF] Dark brown. Very roasty with a touch of plums. Dryish with rounded mouthfeel and medium body. Grassy and roasty with some licorice and good late bitterness. DJMonarch (4091), Northwich, Cheshire, England Jan 23, 2006 Cask Handpump at the GBBF, Kensington Olympia 05/08/2005
Mid brown colour with some sour fruit flavours. Alcohol present. Slightly rich roast finish. chris_o (4405), London, Greater London, England Jan 1, 2006 Cask (gravity dispense) at GBBF, August 2005. Although this is manifestly a strong mild, I wouldn’t have guessed it. Reddish brown. Quite fruity, with hints of roast malt and chocolate. Light mouthfeel. Decent but doesn’t really stand out. I find these stronger milds a bit difficult to assess as the extra alcohol needs to add something without losing the essential mild character, and that’s a difficult line to tread. Doesn’t quite come off, but full marks to Chalk Hill for trying.

Aroma of coffee. No complexity, no real body. A thin and watery beer. Could take some more power.
