4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
I got to try this thanks to a beer swap with Erway. This is a fine example of a dubbel if I must say so. If I could get mine to taste this good I might open my own brewery. Nice maltiness with a good caramel sweetness. Complex and plenty of godness that you would expect from a dubbel.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured dark brown... darkest dubbel I think I’ve ever seen, and was gorgeous. It had a mild yeasty aroma... not overly done though. I think the best part of this was the subdued yeast profile, which is usually way too strong for me in most belgians. Had a lot of chocolate, caramel and malt flavors... Good stuff... 7.4% abv

UPDATED: FEB 11, 2008 Just an all around nice beer. Thick and malty with a nice alcoholic bite. A bit of a scotch note with smokey undertones.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Labeled 7%, pours a dense dark brown with a slight tan head. Big body and big malty flavor. Slight alcohol note. Complexities from Belgian yeast matched well to even dry/sweet overall flavor balance.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Clouded chestnut brown pour with a perfectly retained, creamy light tan head. Thin arc lacing, overall a great appearance. This just smells creamy and succulent. Roasty malt and well extracted every-element, with extremely well-integrated caramel. Notes of honeyed malt, cereal grain, cocoa powder, egg yolk, molasses and mild alcohol. A great(almost a 9) aroma. Mellow baked banana peel and even softer spice, raisins and miscellaneous dark fruit round out the nose. Upon first sip, the realization that this is overattenuated a touch doesn’t deter great enjoyment. This is a great take on a great style. Mild sweetness, very high nuttiness overtake the senses. Bitterness and astringency are low and complimentary. The Belgian yeast element is mild but lovely throughout. The finish is dry, nutty malt and light roast lingering. I would love to have more of this.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Courtesy hopscotch. Deep burnt ochre brown, very little head. Aroma is reodlent of sweet malts, treatcle, plums, some raisins. The flavor is what is to be expected, sweet and rich, with a touch of graininess that seems to work well. Good bottle.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy hopscotch. Hazy, burnt amber/brown and a small dense tan head. Aroma and flavor of toasty bread, lightly zesty yeast, past ripe dark fruit, small dose of roasty malt. Dry, lightly yeasty finish. Medium/full body, balanced carbonation, easy to drink. Very nice dubbel.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Courtesy hopscotch. Pours a cloudy brown with a small light brown head. Smells of dark malts, caramel, molasses, and some sweet dark fruits. Tastes of big caramel malts, dark berries, a little molasses, and a little wood. The finish is a little woodsy as well, mildly sweet, and oaky. The caramel and malts were the most prominent in the finish and the aftertaste however. Pretty solid.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Sampled at the brewery on a business trip . . . was rushed for time so I couldn’t give it a chance to warm up (of course it was served too cold) - but pretty solid I must say. Nice example of the style and a very nice brewpub.
