4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 notalush (3742) - Denver, USA - SEP 26, 2009
I was really excited to see Erway’s brewery at GABF this year, especially since I had the good fortune of trying Anastasia this past summer, and was blown away by it - this beer did not disappoint me - intensely grassy, earthy, herbal hops flavor, with enough lean malt sweetness to keep it from being straight up bitter - make no mistake, though, this is a hophead’s beer - complex pine, citrus, grass, etc. - very fresh-tasting - all around delicious.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 Thorpe429 (3824) - Alexandria, Virginia, USA - NOV 27, 2010
On tap at the brewpub in mid-August 2009.
A: A little bit on the lighter side. This pours a mostly-golden color with a decent amount of head and pretty good lacing as it goes down.
S: Tropical fruits and a bit of spiciness in the hop profile on this one. The hops are quite nice, but they’re not enough to dazzle the senses, and there isn’t too much backing them up. Overall, definitely on of the brewery’s best in this department.
T: Much like the smell--a good hop bill that definitely doesn’t take the backstage to the malt or any other component of the beer, yet at the same time there’s something that’s not quite completing this one.
M: Pretty good carbonation and a medium body, although the alcohol might be a bit too prevalent. I preferred the smoother mouthfeel and drinkability of the standard Jack Rabbit IPA.
D: Very good to have a taste of, but not one that I just couldn’t put down.
Serving type: on-tap

Floral hop aroma. Golden coloured strong in alcohol and hoppy with a little dryness in a crisp and bitter malt finish.

On tap at brewpub. Pours golden orangish copper with one finger white head. Aroma is loaded citrus, pine, tropical fruits, pine and hops. Flavor is very well balanced with bitter hops, citrus, peaches, a little pine and some caramel and malt. Really soild DIPA. Hell of a job Erway.

What an achievement! Tastes like Pliny the Younger without as many dry hopping processes! Aroma of peach, mango, white pepper and pine. Flavors of the same, with a faint caramel squeezing its way in in later finishes. Profoundly refreshing. Color is a bright yellow-gold and not at all the color you would expect. Cheers Jeff!
