Thanks to whaleman for breaking open this growler... Appears black with a dark brown hue edge when held up to the light. A 1 finger, dark tan, fluffy head slowly fades out. It looks, amazingly, like it was poured with nitrogen, as the sides cascade up to form the head. Smell is of roasted malt, sweet fruit, cocoa, espresso, and whipping cream. Taste is of the mentioned aromas with a light blast of citrusy hops mixing in the roasty mix of cocoa and coffee. Mouthfeel is full bodied, creamy, sweet, dry up front but a lingering of creamy sugar. Medium amounts of CO2 fill this out.

Poured black with a small tan head. The aroma had big chocolate and coffee notes nicely blended together. There was however some notes of ash. Roasted malt and coffee flavor as well. Medium bodied with a dry mild-moderately bitter finish.

Name: Lode Star Imperial Stout
Date: 03/27/2007
Mode: Hand Bottled
Source: Tasting

black, wispy tan head, drops of lace, sweet dark chocolate aroma with a touch of roasted, creamy body, lots of rich malt flavor well balanced between the roasted and chocolate malts, the dry dark chocolate starts to win the balance, develops a long bitter finish from both the hops and the black malts, the creamyness comes in and saves it in the end

Bottle sampled on 3/27/07: Pours a dark opaque black with a very dark tan/light brown wispy head. Mild caramel and roasted malt aroma has some ashy smoky notes and a touch of dark fruits. Starts fairly full, dark caramely malty and sweet with nice mild dark fruity flavor and a somewhat full body with earthy, lightly piny hoppy balance toward a rich, dark chocolatey finish. Hides the alcohol very well in the bittersweetness.

Bottle courtesy of zuchinicat. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells of roasted malt, dark fruit, some coffee and chocolate. Tastes of bitter coffee and chocolate initially. As the beer warms, there is some sweet hints, but the bitterness overwhelms everything.

Thanks to Ted for the growler. Nearly opaque black body with noticeable viscosity and a persistent velvety brown head. Aroma of chocolate malt, caramel, coffee liqueur and booze. Lots of dark chocolate in the flavor with a nice emergence of rum raisin. Abundant residual sweetness with a roasty-bitter balance. Is nice.

Shared from Growler courtesy of whaleman (thanks!). Poured a dark black color with an averaged sized tan head. Even though this one poured out of the Growler, it looked like it was poured from a ntiro tap! Aromas of purnes, chocolate, roast, light coffee, and vanilla, Tastes of chocoalte, vanilla, some dark fruits and had a light coffee bitter finish. Lacing left on the glass.

Poured an opaque black color with a small, tan head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoke, roasted malts, some chocolate, espresso, and vanilla beans. Taste of much of the same, with more smoke, cocoa, vanilla, a bit of citrus hoppiness, and light alcohol in the finish.
