4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: OCT 30, 2005 Re-rate, Oct 2005: Black body with a small brown head. Very charry flavor, medium to light bodied, sharp and strong burnt wood and licorice flavor, with only a small emphasis on the oatmeal in the finish. Good stuff.
Original rating, some time in 2003 when it was Blue Corn? Very smooth and rich, but not as thick as most stouts. Aromas were mild and pleasent, mainly of raisens and coffee beans, with a small hint of oatmeal. Flavors not so much of oatmeal, but mostly coffee, chocolate, and some wood. Seems more like a porter.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle shared by goldtwins: Opaque appearance with some dark brown edges and a thin light tan head. Milk chocolatey oatmeal aroma has some cookie dough presence. Starts with a nice sweet dark caramel and roasted malty presence with a full, yet smooth oatmeal finish with good hoppy character. A nice sweet stout.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
GABF 2005: Dark ruby brown with a small tan head and good lace. The aroma has notes of chocolate and dried coffee, prune, pipe tobacco, and walnut. The taste has sweet mocha malt notes witha nutty and light ripe fruity background with a punch of coffee and hop bitterness on the finish, a touch smoky too! The thin feel is a let down. More than quaffable, a session stout.
