A traditional sour wheat ale inspired by the German original. Made with wheat and pale malt, this beer is refreshing and quaffable with flavors of sourdough and citrus fruit.

On tap at Birch Bar Norfolk, VA for Zwanze ’14, pours cloudy pale straw yellow with 2 finger head. Nose is straight up offensive, total garbage juice, hot dumpster and horse manure. Smells terrible. Taste thankfully is not as bad with a pretty standard take on a berliner, soggy mish mash grain and low tartness stonefruit, hints of lemon and citrus. The negative elements do come through but are subdued on the palate. Finish is moderate tart citrus and round lemon with low acidity and some stale grain. Pass.

Tasted on 2/8/14 from a growler at some point during the RBWG Asheville festivities. Pours hazy dark yellow with a thick white head that leaves rocky lace. The nose is on the maltier side of berliner with a ton of creamy wheat and some light lemon acidity. The flavor is about the same with more creamy wheat than anything and a nice, crisp lemon acidity. The body is light with lively, nearly sparkling carbonation and a medium creamy wheat and decently tart finish.

Funky, dried apple nose. Dingy golden, headless. Tart lemon and green apple, vegetal with a pronounced spinach note. Fizzy, light body. Very sour, very infected.

Nice, would be a good thirst quencher in the summer.

Growler at RBWG 2014, thanks! Pours a cloudy earthy dull yellow with an off-white head that dissipates completely. Aroma has earthy wheat with a light tart lemon note. Flavor has a light lemony tartness but is mainly full of earthy wheat.

Growler in the hotel room while wrapping uo RBWG 2014. Pours cloudy gold with a fine, creamy head. Mild lacto tang in the nose, hints of white peaches and lemon. Light sweet flavor, assertive tartness, lots of citric lemon bite. Light bodied with fine, spritzy carbonation. Clean, fresh sour lemon finish, slight metal and salt, a bit of tongue-blister, light citrus sugars. Moderateky dry. Very refreshing.
