"With its attractive taste and a price that appealed to consumers at all levels, the response and success of Chang marked a new era and turned a new page for the Thai beer industry. In 1998 Beer Chang was awarded the “Gold Medallion” at the International Beer Competition in Australia in the category of “Lager, Unlimited Degree”.

Chang pours slightly hazy and with a pale. Head persisted for a little longer than average. There’s barely any aroma present. What is there is not so great. Light sugary smells with a slightly off-putting funky malts (almost a little bit of rancid butter). Very much like the smell would indicate, this beer has very little taste. And what is there doesn’t much appeal to me- a little sugary but with that rancid butter malt taste just flirting on the edge of my palate. Blech. At least the mouthfeel is about right. Light carbonation, light consistency. Maybe a little much malt follow through actually. I wouldn’t drink a lot of these, even with the lightness. If you’re in Thailand and looking for a beer, I think Leo is your best bet.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Golden with a white head which disappears almost instantly. Sweet aroma with some rice, vegetables, minor floral hops. Sweet with some bitterness. Works in Thailand but back home, naeee...

Pours yellow with a quickly disappearing white head. Slight sweet aroma of malt and a minor sweat note reappearing briefly in the flavour too. Slight sweet flavoured, very mild malt note. Mild bitterness in the finish blending smoothly in with remaining soft malt notes.

Competing brand I had in Thailand to Singha. Seems to be avail all over the place there so had it in a 640ml bottle with a spicy thai meal. Now as a beer this is a little better than Singha, crisper and a little more hop to it. Ok overall.

0.33l bottle. Golden body with a quickly vanishing white head. Sweet bready malty aroma with a slight toastyness. Sweet bready malty taste with a hint of floral hops. Weak bodied but still an OK lager.

Bottle bought in Chinatown, London. Pours a yellow/gpld colour with a white head, rather thin and uninteresting...

Drinking this in Thailand is something of a risk as the alcohol content can vary. The exported version exhibits a light, crisp and soft hoppy taste. Goes well with Thai curries and warm weather.

Yellow with a small head. Smells like CO2. Tastes like contaminated water. Barely drinkable.

Says that it is brewed at a district called Bang Ban; perhaps the only such district in Thailand. Anyway, this is bad. No head. No aroma. Looks like water collected from the Chao Phraya. Has very weird taste that is hard to describe. An insult to that most noble of animals, the elephant.
