1.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle at the Ship Inn, Kata Beach, Phuket. I find it hard to believe that this beer ever won any awards. It has that slightly bitter, hoppy taste of any average pilsner, but nothing to set it apart from the crowd. I'll drink it on a hot sunny day in Thailand when there is nothing else, but that's where it ends!

1.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 3/20
500 ml can bought at 7-Eleven in Metropolis Plaza, Sheung Shui.
Piss pale golden yellow colour; Very thin head and white foam which fades in 20 seconds; Minimal lacing and some notable carbonation; Pungent smell of malt, rice, grains, corn syrup, grape juice, light lemon and thin grass; Medium sweet taste of thin malt, with strong rice, light bread, strong thinner / paint stripper, corn syrup, very light wet cardboard, light citrus and grass; Mid to light body, slightly slick palate; Taste profile is typical malt likka - strong solvent taste with obvious burning sensations, plus strong rice and corn syrups - malt taste faded into background, how nice! Booze is all about fusel, and pretty alcoholic as well. Blah! Hoppiness is light lemon and grass in nose and taste, and slight bitterness. Burning fusel finish; Slightly dry after taste, caustic and a boozy to mouth.
Comments: Having the other two Changs (Beer and Draught) previously, I didn’t hold much hope for this one and that’s exactly it - typical malt likka with loads of adjuncts and solvents. Should be popular if it was exported to America. Not for me, drain pours after half a glass.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
640ml bottle in Koh Phangnan, Thailand (100 Baht):
Light grain and some faint hops on the nose with some very light skunk. There is some sweetness and corn with a faint hint of alcohol as well.
Clear, golden straw colour with a thin, 1cm head that settles as a patchy looking lacing after thirty seconds.
Lager malts with some grain, a few adjuncts and a very small taste of alcohol that was to be epected going by the abv. on the bottle. There is a hint of hops and a semi-bitterness with some grassy flavours and a bit of citrus.
Smooth for the most part bar the touches of grain. There is some alcohol but it is better hidden than I expected. Medium carbonation compliments a light body and there is a slight citrus tang together with a crisp and very clean feel.
A solid Asian beer and my go-to beer anytime I am in the region as it is so much better than the export version that makes its way to Europe and the UK. It’s not outstanding by any means but it is a good beer with a nice alcohol kick that soon catches up on you once you’ve had a few.

0.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20
Day five of the malt liquor excursion through the jungles of Bangkok. Big bottle at a bar, didn’t realize it was a malt liquor but now it makes perfect sense because seriously this was the eggiest beer I’ve ever had. Some green apple too in the aroma and flavour was sweet malt, alcohol, and rotten egg. Absolutely disgusting, I miss Cambodian beers.

2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
640 ml bottle 6.4%. This is a typical asian pale lager style, why anyone would label this a malt liquer is beyond me. Not a bad asian lager as it is, alcohol is noticeable but otherwise the high abv comes as a surprise (unless you read it on the label). Really not any worse than singha, tiger et al. and certainly better than the watered down 5.0% export version.

Fairly good lager, nothing special. Perfect for a warm and humid night. Thailands pride, it said. Not sure.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Rich golden color. White head fizzles away to a ring. Rich, malty aroma. Taste is a little bit of sour grain as is to be expected from a high gravity malt liquor. 2 tallboys on the island...
