Would you like a normal or a sour Geuze? Is what I heard at brewery when I was there during the Tour de Geuze – I was a bit flabbergasted and disappointed but I went a got a sour one anyway despite their disapproving looks. Murky sad orange looking, lightly hazy, only bubbles for the head. Smell is murky, stale water, sour malts, light tart citrus, rotting grains,… Taste is a bit watery, very weird, murky, dust, rotting mash and grains, rotting lemons and lemon peels, cobwebs, lactic,… Starts getting pretty nasty after a while. Flat. Too odd, it is their young lambic, the old ones I have had were actually quite yummy. Mmm … that is what I get for trying a sour one I suppose, the “normal” non-sour geuze by them is abysmal.

37.5cl green glass bottle that is both corked and capped pours out with a slightly opaque copper body and gold hues supporting a thin near white head of foam. The aroma has acidic notes mixing with spiced red apple with some sweetened vinegar and faint yeasty funk in the background. The taste is full of acidic citrus and light hints of vinegar. It gets more acidic the more I drink leaving it sort of crushed aspirin like dry tartness as well.

Orange copper color with big head. Sour aromas. Sour/grape taste with a metallic finish. Very enjoyable gueuze beer, but for sure not one of the best.

Blind tasting off 18 current available Gueuzes Appearance: little to no head. Nose: very sour! very good nose. Taste: somewhat sweet, nice and sour, could use a little more carbonation maybe, but very good all together!

Bottle 37,5 cl. Pours bronze in color with small off-white head. Some funkiness and barnyard in aroma. Light notes of some wheat and perhaps even some lemony notes is to be found. Tart mouthfeel, feels very sour and acidic. Nice. There’s just a hint of some wheat in taste, but mostly it is the tartness that is there, lemon and vinegary sourness. Enjoyable and easy to drink.
