Bottle (corked & capped 12 oz) poured correctly by server, into a correct glass. Unlike some of the other reviewers, it seems I got a fresh bottle of this lambic: the color in the glass was a beautiful dark strawberry, not brown. Holding the glass up to the ample natural light seemed to accent the color, while revealing a non-distracting cloudiness. Very little head because of the careful pour, I think. The nose was fresh strawberries. The first few mouthfuls were appropriately sweet but not cloying. The body of this sample was medium; the carbonation was light, with tiny bubbles. At 3.5 per cent alcohol, this went down very well and never turned bitter. To me, it’s a good example of the type and tasty, too.

A: The pour is a slightly hazy amber sort of color with a small white head. S: A strawberry jam type of aroma initially but underneath there is some medicinal and chemical notes, along with some cork. T: This isn’t quite as bad as Bootlegger’s Pink Funkasaurus, but it’s getting there. Bandaids, sugary strawberry bubblegum, and a hint of sourness. There’s also some plastic kind of flavor here, but that’s not really surprising. M: The body is on the light end of medium with the carbonation being middle of the road. D: Do. Not. Want. This was not pleasant at all, and one of the more foul Chapeau lambics.

Bottle. Pours with a clear orange-amber body with a small white head. Aroma of strawberry preserves, wood shavings, attic, dust and leather. Taste is leather, lightly tart, strawberries, horse hair, corn syrup. Fizzy.

Terrific strawberry lambic. Light and somewhat syrupy. Dirty brown pour. Very smooth strawberry taste with light malts. Probably, too sweet and sugary for most. It’s definitely not for everyone. Rated 2/10/03
