Commercial Description:
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

0.25 l bottle. Wine-red colour with no head. Smell and taste is sour, flavour’s, beside a thin body, for me like a cherry soft drink (For example Márka meggy) without sparklingness. This lambic’s not my style, mostly not for this price (ca. 2 euros)...

Bottle: Deep red with a pinkish white head. Very sweet candied cherry/marzipan aroma. Some old cork and oxidation comes through along with an odd rubbery phenol. Slick light body. Candied cherry notes throughout the flavor. Sugary tasting yet light and fluffy feeling. Sweet marzipan all over then in the middle a brief brett and mild cork funkiness peaks it’s head through followed by a touch of tartness on the back. A dessert like beer that should be served to people with a sweet tooth who aren’t beer drinkers- this can potentially be a segue beer for non-beer people.

Bottle: Do I have to keep rating these properly? They pour brightly coloured, no head. They smell like the fruit on the label, but in that filmy, artificial way. They taste like soda pop that coats your tongue. Enjoy.. IF YOU CAN.

A Mes rate. Draught at ZBF.
Amazing candy apple red colour with a good orange pink head. Cheap kriek syrup aroma. The flavour is a lot better. Yes it’s still cheap candy and syrup but the flavours are actually quite decent. That’s all I can say though. It’s a kriek, a crap one, but it’s drinkable. I’m done.
