Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

I’m going to be contrarian on this one. Pours hazy ruby with very small white head. Nose is faint cherry. Cherry flavor predominates, very sweet, with some oak leaves and a faint mustiness towards the end. Refreshing, easy to drink, and underrated.

Aroma of cherries, a bit of sourness. Poured a burnt amber with a tiny bit of soda like head. Flavor was totally off, funky, unpleasant, and palate was way too thick and creamy for a lambic.

Smells a bit of cherry chloraceptic. Raspberry colored with a thin pink-tinted white head. Cherry flavor in the fore, but some odd pesticide flavor follows strongly afterwards. Cherry-Raid! It tastes like it could almost be good, but as it is that pesticide flavor is way too off putting.

I liked this one. Not exceptional, definitely not an everyday beer, but an interesting experience nonetheless. The smell has some odd associations, cherry glue, sweet, almost artificial and cloying, with very candy notes. Teaste is not as sweet as belied by the smell. Very sippable.

Tap, ZBF 2005. Hazy red brown, thin pinkish head and low condition. Artificial syrupy sweet cherry notes pervade throughout. Not at all pleasant.

Cough syrup/oak/candy sugar/and a little carbonation to save the day. Not bad but nothing I’d seek out again.

Bottle - corked and capped. Deep ruby colored body with a foamy effervescent pink head. Nose is woody and sour with huge black cherry notes, some hints of cherry cough syrup and light candyish notes. Maybe some over-sweetened preserves. Taste is sour cherries, cherry cough syrup, sugary fruits, and faint wood notes. A little too much on the sweet side but still drinkable and not as horrible as others make it out. But this, to me, is not a "true" kriek. Body has mild tartness and has some dry spots but lacks the extreme acidic notes and dryness that others would exhibit. Mild carbonation feel to it. The finish is a bit weaker than expected. Thinner cherry notes, more cherry cough syrup and it sort of falls apart at times. Still not horrible but uneven.

Bottle. Honestly, the only reason I drank this was because it had been in my fridge for like 3 months and was starting to annoy me. Hazy red color with a head consisting of minimal bubbles. Smells very medicinal, like a combination of cherry cough drops, formaldehyde, and...cherry cough syrup. Flat cherry taste with little to indicate that it is beer other than some malts behind the medecine - not that I was expecting much at 3% ABV. Not completely offensive but I’m surprised it’s not rated lower.
