Commercial Description:
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

This was not good, tasted like fake cherries and bad beer. Sour and nothing pleasant.

12.7 oz bottle, capped & corked. Pours cloudy brownish red with hardly any head. I wonder if the green bottle has to do with turning the color of this stuff brownish. Taste cherry and some funky cheese. Not a good mix. Not reall tartness but more of stale cherries. Take a pass on this.

Bottled. Hazy red opaque colour, reddish foay head. Strong sweet cherry aroma. Semibitter cherry flavour with some strawberryish notes. Standard Kriek, but the colour was surprising.

This brewery should be ashamed for the crap they turn out. I have tried all of this swill because an ex-girlfriend loved it, I should have known about her from that. This is Cherry flavored cough syrup.

Deep ruby color with a medium pink head. Sweet cherry aroma with hints of cork. Flavor was mostly sweet/tart cherries and a strange corky aftertaste.

Dodgy blood-like colour. Very artificial cherry aroma. Cloyingly sweet, dessertwine-like flavour.

Soda like pour, with a pink head which dissipates immediately. Deep opaque ruby hue. Artificial cherry nose, with a strange funk. Creamy, sweet syrupy body. Faint funky sourness. All black cherry, artificial and overly sweet. Faint oaky woody funk. Not much else. Put this over ice cream or in a beer cocktail, but dont drink it straight...I wont ever again. Interesting and slightly fun.

Earthy, musty, corked aroma is lightly medicinal with sour cherries and green apples. Reddish-brown, grape juice-like coloured body with decent dark pink head that lasts nicely and laces well. Very sweet cherry, berry flavour has strong earthy tones. Malt flavours emerge towards the finish. Sticky texture, medium body and very low carbonation. Bottle sampled with asheft and Pitpit.
