COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Murky ruby ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The aroma is of cherry pie filling and a touch of graham... reminiscent of the aroma of New Glarus’ Belgian Red. The flavor is far more sugary and far less pungent than that of traditional lambics. Sweet and fruity; tart and tangy. Medium-bodied and creamy with soft, tingly carbonation. Leaves a lingering, sweet, fruity taste in the mouth. I’ll go against the grain here as I thoroughly enjoyed this brew! There’s more than enough room within the world of beer for both traditional and sweetened lambics, such as this!

(Bottled) Sonewhat hazy, deep red color with a smallish, pink head. Sweet, but reasonably natural aroma of cherries. Very sweet cherry flavor with an inch of acididity, but hardly even a hint of tartness. Light to medium-bodied, sticky-sugary palate with low to medium carbonation. Another potentially drinkable, even somewhat natural kriek spoiled with excess sugar...

Bottle. Frothy white almost no head. Dark red colour. Powerfull cheery aroma. Not so good flavor. Very sweet and too acetic. Average finish. Watery syrupy palate.

Astonishingly, not 100% sweet. Sweet in the front, yes. Sweet in the end, yes. But--but!--a slight hint of tart sourness nestled somewhere in the middle. To be sure, it’s not much, but it’s there. Also less artificial-tasting in the fruit department than other de Troch beers.

Dark red coloured, some light carbonation with a small pink head. Artificial cherry aroma, sweets candy like. Medium sweet cherry taste. Finish is again sweet cherry with an artificial candy touch. Rather medium one.

Hazy reddish body with a few pink bubbles around the edge of the glass. A hint of real, sour cherries in the aroma, but more dominating is the cherry flavored cough syrup. As for the taste, well...a sugar sweetness at the start, followed by cherry flavored gummy candy, much like Swedish fish, and a slight finish of vinegar sourness. This might be good as a first intoduction to the style, but not something I like very much at all.

Poured a hazy auburn red with a quickly dissipating thin white head. Moderate cherry and fruity acidity in the aroma. I was surprised by the first sip. The acidity was truly right for a lambic. Unfortunatley, it was only a fleeting glimpse. Every sip had that flavor, but it was oh so brief. I think the cherry part of this brew seems almost artificial.

Bottle: Poured a dark red with light white head. Sweet cherry aroma. Sour watery cherry flavor. Not impressive for this style!
