Commercial Description:
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

Bottle Feb 99 drank on Jan 05: Red/pink color some particles, with a small-bubbled, thin white head. Huge sweet cherry aroma that is pretty sweet. Starts and ends sweet with a raw sugar taste in the middle between two sours tastes. Light body that is a bit watery and a sweet finish.

It’s a tad sweet for me, but not a bad Kriek. Nice sour (but in a good way)pie cherry flavor. I’ll have another soon,.

I think my friend Susan put it best when she said... "It’s not like drinking beer at all!" and i’s true. It’s not beer at all. Not that it’s terrible. It’s cherry and all, but I’ll pass on this Lambic.

pale orange with a rose’ head. Deep luscious cherry nose. Nice clean cherry flavor. This balances nice with teh sourness and is very refreshing. It could use a bit more fruit flavor for this style.

Tiny, but bubbly head, deep cherry red color, (naturally). Straightforward aroma of cherries, both sweet and sour. Very light in body and texture, with an incredible amount of sourness on the palate, which diminishes, leading toward a sweetish finish. Very mellow and pleasant, simple and satisfying. Not an extraordinary lambic, but solid example.

The aroma can best be summed up by either "Cherry Lifesavers" or "Sucrets". Bing cherry aroma with just a hint of bitterness. Hazy dark strawberry red with thin pink head. Medium watery body with light carbonation. Sweet cherry flavor to start, though watery. Mild acidity throughout, very fruity. Finish is cherry and just a little lambic-ness. After is mildly fruity, not bitter. Drinkable, like a fruit juice, but not a stellar kriek lambic.

Reddish/brown color, small reddish head that faded quickly leaving little behind. The aroma was cherry and fairly sweet. The flavor was nothing special.Cherry flavor upfront with a decent sweetness ans maybe a slight sourness towards the end but not as much as i would like to see.Over all it’s better then the other two brews i’ve had from them but it still falls short of be a decent brew. It’s worth trying once and maybe twice.
