Commercial Description:
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

Bottle from Red, White, and Brew in Mt. Holly, NJ. Pours a great body - dark, ruby red with some sediment and a small pinkish head. The aroma is a cherry lolli-pop, lots of sugar. Taste is extremely sweet, too sweet actually. No taste of alcohol. They should just double the abv in this bad boy, then you’d have a beer.

250 ml bottle lcbo. Pours a clownish Maraschino-red color with a ludicrously dish-soapy head. Sour and cherry jolly-rancher aroma. Flavor is repeat of aroma with some old wood notes, and some striking vinegar sourness that burns into the palate and feels rough in the pipes. Perfecty rings of fake foam, and that damn sweet kid’s-candy-cherry aroma... a harsh product, but one not as horrifying as Chapeau Lemon.

Sampled at Zythos 2009. Haze, deep red, very pink head. Stupid kiddie sweet aroma. Really just a sweet alcopop, but not unlikeable.

Consumed at Zythos, St Niklaas, Belgium, 08-03-09 This came courtesy of Ian and Mes who were on a Brouwerij De Troch tasting mission, cheers lads. Pours a wonderfull looking day old watered down blood with a great girlie pink head. Really quite sweet cherries, but its not unlikeable, its tangy and its actually ok. A6 A4 F6 P3 OV12 2.4

The appearance is, as expected, dark red. The aroma is like a very nice combination of wine and cherries. The taste is very good; the cherry flavor is strong, of course, while also having a sense of being a beer as well. It’s a very smooth beer as well. I really, really like this beer, and would recommend it to everyone.

(Rating #2184)

375ml Bottle: Aroma of cherries, banana, and hand lotion. Poured magenta with hints of purple and ruby in color, and a small, white-with-a-purple hue head that lasted throughout. Cloudy. Not sparkling. Several small particles throughout. Flavor is extremely sweet. Tastes of cherries and cherry juice. Light to medium body. Fizzy, then very dry texture. Average to lively carbonation. Sweet, cherry finish is dry.

smells exactly like cherry pie, candied cherries with a little bit of breadiness. it pours dark red with a small but lasting head. tastes a little sweet, tart kind of poppy in carbonation, but also lambic sour and with a bit of grain taste. very nice for a little refreshment, though i am not going to drink often, every now and then it would be nice to drink especially in summer. very cheap but also small and low alcohol, worth picking up for sure.
