COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

Bottle. Vile. Pours with a large white head over a murky red body. Aroma of mold and robitussin (moldy robitussin?), musty, cobwebs, dirt, soil, attic, badness. Taste is sweet, very sweet, light tartness, cherry, robitussin, cherry pie (with crust). Lively bubbles. Better...no, not really.

Bottle 25 cl from Au Grain d’Orge in Neuchâtel (CH). Brown-red a little muddy, with pink foam. Nose of cherry and spices, very smooth with honey. The taste is slightly acid then come the sweetness and the livelyness of the cherry with sugar-honey and notes of kernels. Very fruity, pleasant and rather refreshing.

375ml, capped and corked. Pours a bright red color. After removing the cap, I noticed that the cork was wet. Tiny bubbles coming out of the top of the cork while it was still in the bottle... not a good sign? The cork popped on this bottle. Blasted me in the eyes with pressurized gas. Then a cool blast of the aroma of cherry syrup. Yum, candy! Finally a good bottle of Chapeau. Tart flavors of lambic and lots of cherry syrup. What a nice fruit lambic this is. Just as you’d expect from a Belgium Lambic Specialist. Very Good.

(bottle - corked & capped 12 oz) Pink pour with a thin pink head. Aroma is earthy but rather sweet with some very light tart cherry flavors underneath. Flavor is sweet and fruity at the start. A lot of sweet jam-like notes mix with some very mild cherry tartness near the middle and combine for a dry and nearly tasteless finish. Virtually no aftertaste. Flavor is nice, but could use some more flavor on the finish. Really want to see if I can find the Oude version of this.

Pours a cherry red color with a quickly dispersing pink head. Aroma is Ludens cherry cough drops, some moldy wood, and maybe some funk. Flavor is sweet cherry syrup, some old wet wood, some tartness, and a dry bitter finish.

Bottle. Poured a reddish brown with a quick, fizzy, pink head. Aroma of cherry cool aid. The flavor found cherry punch with a light wheat backing. Light body. Initially tart but became sweet with a smooth carbonation.

A: It pours a beautiful deep ruby red with a high level of carbonation. It leaves some lacing behind as I drink it. S: Has the aroma of nice bitter cherries. Reminds me of when I open a can of cherry pie filling. T: It has a nice tart cherry flavor. The flavor matched with the carbonation is a nice match. This beer could serve as a dessert . M: Nice tart and crisp. The feel is good. D: This is a drinkable beer. I would limit myself to one as a dessert beer, but could easily drink more.
