I tried this beer on August 2, 2008 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a deep red colour, some translucence, with a very thin pink head. The aroma is similar to a child’s cherry lollipop. The mouthfeel is light bodied and champagne like. The flavour is very similar to a sour cherry soda. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 1, 2008 Bottle. Pours a deep ruby-pink with a small diminishing pinkish-white head. Sweet, simple aroma of cherry candy. Flavour’s the same, sweet cherries but also mildly sour in the finish. Syrupy mouthfeel, average to medium bodied. Not bad, it’s pretty sweet so the size is right as a little of this goes a long way, but for Chapeau it’s pretty good. On a nice Summer day it can be a decent refreshing drink but for a Lambic it’s just mediocre. dkazuk (247), winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada Sep 1, 2008 250ml bottle.
Pours a bubbly deep red with a small pink head. Smells like cherry pie. Sweet flavour of cherries but not too overbearing like some fruit beers I’ve tried. A little sourness in their as well. Not too bad. LilBeerDoctor (1480), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. Pours a reddish brown with no real head. Aroma of sour cherries and acidic vinegar. Flavor is quite sweet, nice cherry syrup, cherry candies. Smooth drinking. Nice beer with just the right amount of sweetness. Cherry is a little faded, probably because this is an older bottle. fredandboboflo (1395), East Setauket, New York, USA Aug 31, 2008 Bottle. I think I’m rating the right beer? It’s sweet but not really a sugar bomb? It might be an old bottle? Nearly clear amber sort of color? That doesn’t sound like either beer...all very weird. In any case, Aroma of oak and vaguely fruity sugars, a bit acetic. Flavor more of the same with some cherry creeping in toward the end. Weak mouthfeel. Not bad otherwise, although lacking a defining character. AtlAggie (131), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Aug 26, 2008 Cherry red with little to no head. Aroma is overwhelmingly cherry syrup, almost like a kid’s cough syrup. Taste is very sweet of cherry syrup, with none of the lovely sourness of better krieks to balance it out. Definitely on the lower-end of the kriek spectrum.
