Cartoonkhaki (1149), Brantford, Ontario, Canada Jun 17, 2008 Ruby red liquid with pinkish thin head, if this wasn’t pink it would look crappy. Actually it still looks bad. Aroma of musty cherry cough syrup and acidic lambic. Flavour is sweet cherry with ample sour tartness of a lambic. This just doesn’t do so well but is kind of okay, I think. Boutip (2333), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada Jun 17, 2008 Bottle: Poured a deep red color lambic with huge foamy pink color head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma of sweet cherry syrup is totally dominating with no traces of sourness that I would usually associate with a lambic. Taste is also dominated by sweet cherry syrup which is not bad per se but overall this does not taste like traditional lambic but more like a cheap alcohol-pop. Pretty refreshing for what it is but not something I would have very often. robinvboyer (1419), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada Jun 16, 2008 Anothersocaled lambic from Chapeau. Deep red pour, very small pink head. Aroma is all cherries, its alsmot artificial, like cough syrup, with a slight tiny touch of lambic funk. The flavour is surprsingly decent. I was expecting a super sweet, cloying cherry mess, like most of the other chapeau beers ive had, but wow, this isnt bad. A nice cherry flavour that isnt sloying, or too artificial, and its actually a little sour too, its leaving a nice sourness in the back of my throat, this is actually enjoyable! GregClow (2493), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 15, 2008 Bottle from the LCBO. Ruby-red colour with a small pink head. Aroma and flavour of cherry cough drops, with an odd hint of cotton candy coming through in the flavour as well. Didn’t mind the first few sips, but it got cloying and icky pretty quickly. pootzboy (1035), Hawgville, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2008 Updated: Oct 20, 2008Ruby-brown in the glass, smallish cap some lace.
Aroma is a decent bouquet of cherry and mustines with grainy malts but a tad too much sweetness...like cherry jello made with beer.
Some tartness in the taste, some lambic mustiness but mostly cloying cherry sweetness,
Chapeau is not my idea of a drinkable fruit lambic...too shallow and sweet. Radek Kliber (3912), Toronto (Can) Krotoszyn (Pol), Ontario, Canada Jun 7, 2008 Bottle 250 ml
Appearance: Pinkish hued large top with murky hazed ruby.3+ Nose Strong cherry aroma, bark with light sweet brown wood character, sugar sticky end.6+ Flavor/Palate : Carbonated tart zesty front with super sweet molasses dipped cherry. Sweet and sour ? In scorching heat it might work. I am missing cellar like musky character of some top lambics.
matt7215 (942), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada Jun 3, 2008 250 ml bottle from the LCBO. pors red with a small pink head. cherry aromas. sour, sweet and funky but all cherry. same thing for flavours. odd but enjoyable but basically just a glass of juice. MrManning (1634), London, Ontario, Canada Jun 1, 2008 This one pours bright red almost crimson with a pink fluffy froth that dies down to a thin ring. The aroma is cherry pie filling, a bit of funky yeast, some hay, but it is mostly cherry. Tastes up front of very sweet cherries and at points becomes almost cough syrupy, with flavours of very sweet maraschino cherry. In the middle, there are some funky yeasty flavours that lead to sour cherry finish right towards the end. I think this beer would benefit from having the sweetness toned down a bit, and there would be potential for a good Kriek, but as it stands now, it is just too damn sweet.
