Commercial Description:
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

This one pours bright red almost crimson with a pink fluffy froth that dies down to a thin ring. The aroma is cherry pie filling, a bit of funky yeast, some hay, but it is mostly cherry. Tastes up front of very sweet cherries and at points becomes almost cough syrupy, with flavours of very sweet maraschino cherry. In the middle, there are some funky yeasty flavours that lead to sour cherry finish right towards the end. I think this beer would benefit from having the sweetness toned down a bit, and there would be potential for a good Kriek, but as it stands now, it is just too damn sweet.

Not the best lambic, with a somewhat manufactured cherry flavor, but I don’t find it quite as poor as some seem to.

Great from a flute. Color is a beautiful red The cherry flavor is just right... not concentrate like cough syrup , vut tart and rich like an actual cherry. I am impressed,

250 mL bottle. (bb 30/01/10). Bright ruby red with a small but thick and foamy pink head. Strong aroma of sweet cherries - almost candy-like. The flavour is strong as well, and does kind of a sour-sweet-sour thing. The cherry flavour is terribly artificial. Unpleasant finish.

Bottle, LCBO. Pours a deep blood red with a thin wisp of a pinkish white head. Strong halls cough candy aroma - so artificial. Taste - about the same. Halls like sweetness a touch of sourness. Pretty disgusting really. Not even passable as an intro to the style or Kriek for beginners - this is just gross.

12 oz bottle...poured a garnet red w/ a very, very small pink head that left no lacing. Nose was quite pleasant and consisted of dark cherries, and some florals. The flavor was somewhat sweet cherry, white grapes, sour apples, and a tiny bit of vanilla oak. The palate was somewhat oily, light bodied, with a strong acidic "zing" near the back. Very enjoyable beer and one that my wife actually liked!

Bottle from total wine in St. Pete, Pours Purple/Pink with a fairly good size head which finally rests at about a 1/2 an inch. The smell is super fruity, similar to those airhead candies. Super sweet flavor, tart finish. I like my lambic a little on the sour side, and this isn’t really that at all. Overall really enjoyable
