COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

[Sampled in june 2004.] This it what they call an industrial product. Where is the lambic??? Ohh, it’s forgotten, but we’ve got a lot of kriek additives. Like bublegum for teens. But I got it on a very hot summerday after a footballmatch and found it refreshing. Sorry!

Hazy, darker red color. Little white / pink head. Some loose lace. Taste is very much cherry juice. Nice, tart sweet taste. Some cidery fermented apple in there, too. Lighter carbonation, kind of creamy texture, but very dry. I feel like everything about this beer is intentional... It’s one-dimensional, but it’s got it’s own direction that it follows religiously.

Bottle. Plum with hardly any head. Fresh cherry smell. Very little "fake" smell. In the mouth, very sweet but not overbearingly so. Tastes like fresh cherry instead of the oft-tasted cherry candy. Delicious and light but ultimately not that interesting.

375 ml bottle bought @ Ica Sannegårdshamnen. Pours hazy dark reddish brown with a small fizzy brownish white head that quickly dissipates without leaving any trace. Smell is sweet and slightly sour with cherries, cherry pits, marzipan, burnt sugar, wood and hints of lemon juice and funk. Taste is very sweet, tiny bitter and tiny sour with cherries that feel kinda artificial, brown sugar, hay, wood, lemon peal and spices. Mouthfeel is tiny tart and medium bodied. Finish is sweet and tart with cherry juice and hay.

33cl bottle. Pours a creamy plum colour with a thin skim of suds on the top. The nose has cherry cough lozenges and then some raisins. The taste has more of the plum but completely lcking tartness. The palate is fresh and rich with a medium body and texture and a slightly cloying sweet finish. Overall, a nice beer but this is not a lambic.

Backlog from 27 June 2011. Bottle in Budapest, by 16/03/13. Cherry nose, nothing more. Cherry-red pour with a short pink head. Taste is surprisingly not too sweet, with light acidity and overmedium tartness. Medium-full body with a gentle fizz. Surprised at the restraint here, the last offering from Chapeau I had was a cloying mess.
