COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

purple colored beer with no head. looks more like grape juice. aroma of robotussin. not really sour(maybe a bit tart) but very sweet. tastes ok but not very beer-like or even lambic-like. better than the "exotic". that one is just plain aweful.

Dodgy blood-like colour. Very artificial cherry aroma. Cloyingly sweet, dessertwine-like flavour.

Tap, ZBF 2005. Hazy red brown, thin pinkish head and low condition. Artificial syrupy sweet cherry notes pervade throughout. Not at all pleasant.

Bottle. Honestly, the only reason I drank this was because it had been in my fridge for like 3 months and was starting to annoy me. Hazy red color with a head consisting of minimal bubbles. Smells very medicinal, like a combination of cherry cough drops, formaldehyde, and...cherry cough syrup. Flat cherry taste with little to indicate that it is beer other than some malts behind the medecine - not that I was expecting much at 3% ABV. Not completely offensive but I’m surprised it’s not rated lower.

Burgandy redish pour. Little head. Looks pretty good. Odd scent. Kind of like tart Candy. Actually drinkable, which is more then I can say for any of the other Chapeau’s I have had. Still way too sweet and candy like. Not good but good for this brand.

Pours a cherry red color with a quickly dispersing pink head. Aroma is Ludens cherry cough drops, some moldy wood, and maybe some funk. Flavor is sweet cherry syrup, some old wet wood, some tartness, and a dry bitter finish.

ZBF 2005. Pours cloudy red. Aroma is . . . Absurd. Like candy, bad candy at that. As to taste. Don’t go there. Try the bad candy instead. Aftertaste is unfortunatly long, and gives way to an unpleasant metalic taste

The aroma has cherries, nuts, sugar, and chemicals. The appearance is red with a thin head. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is thin. Overall it stinks.
