COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

I’m going to be contrarian on this one. Pours hazy ruby with very small white head. Nose is faint cherry. Cherry flavor predominates, very sweet, with some oak leaves and a faint mustiness towards the end. Refreshing, easy to drink, and underrated.

Pours a hazy solid red with a thin head. Sweet, dark cherry aroma. Very sweet, dark cherry flavor, with a bit of acidity in the finish. Has some lingering mustiness. Not complex at all and the cherries are obviously not tart or shearbeek but the flavor is still one of quality. Comparing this to other Lambics is kind of ridiculas. Would be good over ice.

Cloudy, browish red-purple with a strawberry merangue topping. Sour cherry pervades the aroma with fruity and woody notes: grape, green apple, earthy beets, medicine. Flavour is very sweet, but not sticky and cloying. Sweet and sour cherry up front that leaves patchy/tingly sweet spots inside my mouth. Cherry gives way to malt characteristics and a sweet, clean finish. Light body and not enough carbonation. So far, I think this is the best kriek I’ve had.

2000 Vintage.    Deep whisky color with red edges and a thick, white halo. Cherry aroma has an odd cereal background & light vitamin undertones. Sugary sweet to start, but the cherries beneath quickly show their tartness. A little sticky in the mouth. You must be in the mood for a sweet affront before you dive into this one, but I certainly was after sampling a variety of gueueze.

Bottled. Hazy red opaque colour, reddish foay head. Strong sweet cherry aroma. Semibitter cherry flavour with some strawberryish notes. Standard Kriek, but the colour was surprising.

Anothersocaled lambic from Chapeau. Deep red pour, very small pink head. Aroma is all cherries, its alsmot artificial, like cough syrup, with a slight tiny touch of lambic funk. The flavour is surprsingly decent. I was expecting a super sweet, cloying cherry mess, like most of the other chapeau beers ive had, but wow, this isnt bad. A nice cherry flavour that isnt sloying, or too artificial, and its actually a little sour too, its leaving a nice sourness in the back of my throat, this is actually enjoyable!

Bottle at Århus Ølfestival 2008. Pours a deep muddy red with a small pink head. Aroma and flavour of Cherry Gums, but not to sweet. Actually quite ok.

smells exactly like cherry pie, candied cherries with a little bit of breadiness. it pours dark red with a small but lasting head. tastes a little sweet, tart kind of poppy in carbonation, but also lambic sour and with a bit of grain taste. very nice for a little refreshment, though i am not going to drink often, every now and then it would be nice to drink especially in summer. very cheap but also small and low alcohol, worth picking up for sure.
