Commercial Description:
Disclaimer: This is the sweetened version of Chapeau Kriek. In 2007 a new version was released, which can come with the same label as Chapeau Kriek, but which is a different beer. This new version is in the database as Chapeau Oude Kriek and it is not sweet. If you had a sweet beer, then you should rate this one. Otherwise, you should rate the Chapeau Oude Kriek.

Description: Since many decades, the brewers of the Senne valley are brewing Lambic. In the 19th century they have created several fruit beers. The cherry beer on base of Lambic was the first or one of the first. The Chapeau Kriek is made on base of Lambic, a artisanal traditional product which ripe on oaken barrels. The Chapeau Kriek is a fresh and delicious beer for delightful moments.

12 oz bottle...poured a garnet red w/ a very, very small pink head that left no lacing. Nose was quite pleasant and consisted of dark cherries, and some florals. The flavor was somewhat sweet cherry, white grapes, sour apples, and a tiny bit of vanilla oak. The palate was somewhat oily, light bodied, with a strong acidic "zing" near the back. Very enjoyable beer and one that my wife actually liked!

Little head. Looks pretty good. Odd scent. Kind of like tart Candy. Actually drinkable, which is more then I can say for any of the other Chapeau’s I have had. Still way too sweet and candy like. Not good but good for this brand.

The one thing I can’t get past in some fruit beers is a vinegar taste. The Chapeau Kriek had just too much of it. I couldn’t get more than a few sips down. I actually really enjoyed the cherry flavor and it wasn’t bad, but that little bit of vinegar in the back was enough that I couldn’t drink it. I’m sure this is pretty good for other people, but if that vinegar flavor turns you off, you might want to go elsewhere. There certainly isn’t a lot of it, though. Just enough... Sorry, Chapeau.
