Reddish-amber. Very fruity, leather aroma is young but solid. Fruity, bitter and austere. Very dry, bready and woody. Shows quite a bit of cherry and carries a punch...very classic in style.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 diabel (1537) - Aarschot, BELGIUM - SEP 7, 2009
Bottle at Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation Clear, ruby to brown/amber body. No head. Aroma of cherries, strawberry, wood, ... quite nice. Heavily sour, lightly sweet flavour. Interesting, but bit astringent mouthfeel. Quite nice, but not supercomplex. Balance is quite fine.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 JorisPPattyn (6727) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAY 31, 2009
Clear, old red copper colour; no head. Sharp nose with something of acetone in it, paint remover, and cherrystones. Dry, not very fruity, bit nutty, and lipsmacking lactic acid. Finish is very nice, more fruity, but the onset is unsettling. Thin body, sharp acidburn. It’s... peculiar. Certainly not wrong, but different from what one would expect - even compared to the old real De Troch Kriek we used to love.
3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Dedollewaitor (10292) - Odense, DENMARK - JUN 10, 2009
Bottle @ WSF. 37,5cl. Pours a pale pink with a small bubbly head. Nose is tart - Acetone tickling the nostrils. Cherry and cellar notes. Tart and dry. Good.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 yngwie (9188) - Kristiansand, NORWAY - JUL 31, 2011
On tap at the brewery. It’s a flat, almost clear beer, deep ruby in color. The aroma has a lot of cherry, some citrus juice and a faint touch of almond, but I’d like it more pronounced. It’s quite dry and astringent on the palate, with flavors of lemon, cherries and some almond. Lasting finish. A quite nice one, although certainly in the commercial end of the spectrum. 110501
3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Travlr (5381) - Washington, Washington DC, USA - MAY 2, 2011
Bottle at the source, Tour de Geuze 2011. Cloudy purple color, small pink head that disappears quickly. Aroma of must and cherries. Taste is sour cherries from somebody’s attic. Not bad.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 3fourths (6400) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - JUN 3, 2008
Not 100% certain if this is "Chapeau Oude Kriek" or if it’s "De Troch Kriek" - it was listed on the menu as "De Troch Oude Kriek" and the label said "Chapeau Kriek" but this in no way is the same thing as the commercial sugar-bomb "Chapeau Kriek". Similar to the rating by oh6gdx below, I will trust diabel to know what is what, so I do believe that this is the correct place for this rating.
Weekend of Spontaneous Fermentation 2008. Pale red ruby color. High acidity but lacks depth. Mild but still hugely sour and acetic, with a mild cherry fruit meat flavor. A surprising traditional aged bottle of De Trouch/Chapeau Oude Kriek.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - JUL 6, 2009
A Mes rate. Bottle at the Weekend of Tarts. Hmmm. Well this surprised me a little. I just couldn’t get my head around the fact that something so tolerable could come out of a bottle with that label on it... It’s a unsweetened kriek. It’s certainly better than the usual Chapeau drivel. It’s just not that amazing either...
