3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a pale, effervescent light copper with a long-lasting white foam head. Aroma is raspberry, with a very light hint of tartness. Flavor is sweet, syrupy fruit. I bought this expecting something sour and got something sweet instead. Oh well. I enjoyed it, but I can understand the low ratings.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
375 ml bottle into tulip glass, 2014 vintage bottling. Pours slightly hazy deep golden yellow color with a 2 finger dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of lemon, peach, apricot, apple, white grape, candi sugar, hay, straw, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/funky yeast and moderate malt sweetness; with solid strength. Taste of lemon, peach, apricot, apple, white grape, candi sugar, hay, straw, light funk, and yeast earthiness. Slight tart/spicy finish; with lingering notes of lemon, peach, apricot, apple, white grape, candi sugar, hay, straw, light funk, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of fruity/funky yeast and moderate malt sweetness; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, fairly crisp, and slightly syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very good sweetened lambic style. All around good robustness, complexity, and balance of fruity/funky yeast and moderate malt sweetness; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

1.7 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Bottle (De Troch Winter Gueuze, 5.5%). Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light amber. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel), with notes of banana/peach/mandarin candies. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively/fizzy carbonation.
Candy flavored soda pop. Calling this a gueuze is utterly ridiculous. When I saw this on the shelf I had forgotten that De Troch = Chapeau = jokey-sugary "lambics". Oh well.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Bottle, as De Troch Winter Geuze 2014. Pours crystal clear pale orange, small white head, dissipates quickly, some lacing. Aroma is grass, candi sugar, grain. Flavor is pretty darn sweet, candi sugar, perhaps a bit of urine, minimal tartness or funk. Light body. Huh.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Appearance: clear dark gold, small white head. Aroma: rather sweet, but otherwise a typical lambic/gueuze aroma, with green apples, rice vinegar, a bit of lemon and a dose of funk strongly reminiscent of stilton cheese. Taste: hugely sweet, with green apples, peaches in heavy syrup, muddled pears, a bit of cough syrup. Finish: slightly dry in the back of the throat, almost like a real gueuze should be, but thereís a lingering sweet syrupy feel thatís overpowering. Notes: ok, a winter gueuze, eh? So thatís why itís like drinking slightly lambic-flavored syrup. Interesting concept, but would not try again. Bottle from the Westover Market, Arlington, Virginia.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Shared 12.7 oz. bottle, poured to snifters showing a fairly clear, golden color, with a modest layer of white head foam that reduced rather quickly to a ring & film, and left some light, web-like lacing on the glass. The aroma presented a lightly tart, light cider & white wine nose, with not much in the way of yeasty funk. Light bodied, with lively effervescence, the taste was as sweet apple. Not overly complex, but a pleasant, drinkable blend. Winter Gueze on the label.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 10/20
Bottle titled De Troch Winter Gueze. Pours deep, clear gold into a tumbler. White head with good retention recedes to skim surface. Sweet, dark pit fruit aromas. Sweet and fruity strawpeacheraprirazapple flavor. It does sort of hurt my teeth in itís sweetness. Lasting mildly bitter wood finish that quickly turns cloying
