2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Dark amber-red body, thin off-white head, minimal lacing. Nose is oddly sweet, with dark fruits: raisins, figs, and dark grapes. Flavor is similar, with a fake-sweetness. Medium bodied, minimal carbonation, residual sweetness. This beer generally tasted like port or a pedro ximenez sherry, crossed with grape juice and flat soda. Which is a scary thought given that a boat load of artifical sugars and flavors went into that.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
375mL labeled as De Troch Winter Gueuze 2014. Aroma is sweet like hard candy made of simple syrup, sugary. Taste like aroma, taste like corn syrup or a simple syrup, just really sugary and sweet. Imagine making a beer that was the opposite of a Gueuze and this what you’d get. Awful, I’d say calling this a Gueuze is false advertising.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2014 Winter Geuze
Damn so much hate on here. No, it is not a traditional tasting geuze. The sourness and funk are super mild but they’re undoubtedly there. I’d place this more in the belgian christmas beer wheel house and the lightness of the geuze qualities add a really delightful complexity to the brew. In fact, I’d say this is one of my favorite christmas beers of the year. Definitely malt forward, even a little sweet and raisiny. Very solid beer and something I’ll definitely buy again

1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 2/20
Tasting at Maakun’s. Smerige stoffige kartonnen kauwgomballenwinkel. Tyfuszoet en smerig. Stinkt ook naar kots en stof en oude goedkope snoepjes. Met mint. Backlog from 2015/10/09.

375 ml bottle shared by James. Not sure where the gueuze was here. Big grape flavor. Fruity nose. Meh.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
375ml Bottle - Amber in colour. Raisins and musty notes in the aroma. Tangy, sweet and tart taste with raisins and dates standing out. This bottle is one I bought in 2006 and is still in reasonable nick but not really my cup of tea.

1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20
When I poured this beer and when I first smelled it I thought, "well it’s a gueuze, it can’t be as, right"? Wrong. Awful beer. Aroma was sweet hard candy and little vinegar. Pour was a clear medium hold with a thin off white film for a head (even after a vigorous pour). Taste was nasty. Artificial sweetener with notes a sweet apple cider vinegar. Teetth hurting sweet. Nasty sticky wet sugary finish with barely any carbonation to liven the beer up. Dumped it halfway through the glass and that’s rare for me. Nasty stuff

0.9 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 1/20
Bottle, as Winter Gueuze, drunk Summer 2015.
I’m not going to lie, I stuck this beer in the freezer to cool it and forgot about it. I let it thaw and poured it in a glass. Smelled as one would expect: heavily oxidized, vegetal, metallic, artificial.
Tastes heavily vegetal and artificial/saccharine-like.
Is this a particularly harsh rating? No, not really, this is fucking god awful beer. But beyond that, that they dare put the word gueuze on the label is just sinful. Still sad and confused about how this "brewery" stays in business.
