Dark amber-red body, thin off-white head, minimal lacing. Nose is oddly sweet, with dark fruits: raisins, figs, and dark grapes. Flavor is similar, with a fake-sweetness. Medium bodied, minimal carbonation, residual sweetness. This beer generally tasted like port or a pedro ximenez sherry, crossed with grape juice and flat soda. Which is a scary thought given that a boat load of artifical sugars and flavors went into that.

Bottle split with Leighton and Bruce at DHVL, 22/03/13 as ’Chapeau Winter Geuze’. Hazed dark golden with a thin off white head. Nose is treacle syrup tart, raspberry, sugars, fruits. Taste comprises sweet sugars, berry fruits, more sugars, light sour notes. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, sweet sugary finish. Did I mention sweet and sugar? Just about drinkable.

Kolor Miedziano-rudy i dość ciemny. Szron i pęcherzyki powietrza pręzą się jak w dobrym winie musującym. Smak to magia połączenia kwasowości guze z lekką nutą słodkości. Pożeczkowe akcenty najbardziej wyczułem i trochę wiśni. Wspaniale pijalne piwo i szybko zniknęło do dzisiejszego objadu. Żal było patrzeć na pustą szklanicę od guze.

This one was one of many in a night, completely the least memorable. Had it after a Girardin and 3F and it didn’t hold a candle.

Zythos 2008. Poured clear amber/orange with no head. Aroma of acidic sweetness. Medium mouthfeel, flavour of sweet sugars and bitter, dry aftertaste. I seem to be the only person in the world who likes this.

Pours a clear copper with a fizzy white head that fades to a ring. Aroma is wet leaves and cherry candy. Taste is super sweet. Very flat despite the fizzy head. Its thick and sugary.

Bottle, Delirium Cafe. Pours a mostly clear dark amber with a one finger fizzy off-white head. The nose is sweet and almost cherry like with some light funkiness. Quite unusual for the style. The flavor is saccharine sweet with some light fruitiness and minimal to no funkiness. Mouthfeel is so sticky it clings to the teeth a bit, fizzy carbonation. Pretty awful, as expected, but it was one of the few Gueuzes that I could track down that hadn’t had before.

(bottle) The Chapeau pours a clear amber/orange color with a very thin white head and some fairly lively carb. Aroma is pretty terrible, and the dominant scent is cooked peppers, of the red bell and fresno stripe. There’s a bit of apple cider, but the vegetal scent reigns supreme. The flavor is very cloying, with a lot of brown sugar, honeycrisp apple, and some raspberry syrup. The pepper creeps in on the finish to remind you that it’s there in the flavor as well, and the finish is lightly wooden. Mouthfeel is sticky and carbonation is lively. Overall this is definitely unlike any other gueuze I’ve tried, but I don’t give that as a compliment. Chapeau does it again.
