3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Draught at Trois 8, 4/24/15
This was indeed listed as a kolsch on the menu, and while I wouldnt run out and call this a kolsch if I drank it blind, I’d much less call it a BdG. Very nice attenuation on the beer with very grassy, somewhat floral hops adding a moderate bitterness. There are some unusual flavors in here, not sure that I would agree they are off or unwanted. It is easy to write off unusual flavors to it being a "Farm Brewery" and while I certainly do not think that gives you free reign to produce strange or unclean beer, I rather liked the strange, yeasty flavors here. Light sourdough, biscuits and lemon are all mixed in with a light carbonation and somewhat watery texture to be expected at this gravity. I will admit that I agree on there being some soapiness here or some other such alkaline compound that is undesirable. Other than that, though, it goes down well and has a true enough malt and hop flavor. Trois 8 strikes me as a place that does a little homework on the breweries they are putting on tap, so I expect this isn’t just some second rate brewery.
Moderate haziness shows more sediment than it should, but it’s not cloudy. Head is small and fairly fleeting while the body is a pale, bronzed-tinged gold.
Nose smells of mineral water, floral and lightly citrusy hops. Bit of honey.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Le Trois 8, Paris, Pours golden with a white head. Aroma is like a light pils. Taste is slightly hopped and a bit of green apple. Very easy drinking. This was described as a kolsch, rather than a biere de garde on the menu, so I don’t know what is up.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
33cl bottle from a friend. It poured a golden colour with a minimal white head. Some carbonation. Aroma is farmhouse, grass, malts, wheat and hints of yeast. Flavour is lightly bitter. Bread, wheat, yeast, citrus, apple. Some metallic notes. Short aftertaste. Served a bit too warm.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle. [thanks Feldthaus]
Pours hazy yellow with a medium, creamy white head. Aroma has malts, light citrus, somewhat grainy and a bit of yeast. Highish carbonation, okay and slightly grainy mouthfeel. Flavour has lemons, sweet malts, a slight hint of metal, apple, some watery notes. Fine, if a bit boring.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
[750ml bottle] Pours a pretty hazy golden yellow, large white puffy head. Aroma is farily yeast-forward, some barnyard funk (the red we had from the same gift pack was infected), hay, slight orange citrus. On the flavour, tastes like you’d expect from a biere de garde – more of that hazy, musty yeast element, mixed with grassy, almost herbal hops. Quite refreshing, all told

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Label says 5% alc.
Medium creamy white head changes into a thicker closed lacing on top of a light cloudy yellow colored beer.
Smell is a watery and thin mix of soap, citrus, light hint of something glue ish, cactus, wheat, hint of malts, vanilla. Mostly a strange mix of soap, wheat and malts.
Taste wheat, meat, iron, floral, some hops, grass, hint of earth, malts, light to medium bitter, some bitter floral hop notes and some yeast and grass.
Aftertaste is wheat with malts, light bitter, hint of meat, floral and grassy.
Low to medium carbo, soft creamy light blown mouthfeel, medium unbalanced body and a creamy texture.
This one is very unbalanced, not good, while the Printemps beer is way better.
