Bottle 33cl. Deep dark brown with a reddish glow. Small off white top that fades quickly. Aroma not very special. Some sweetness and citrus recognizable. Taste is vaguely sweet, but there’s a peculiar spicy touch to it. Not very comforting. Alcohol is clearly present too.

Bottle. Red amber body, medium head. Aroma has prunes and figs. Sweet caramelly taste with brown sugar. Mouthfeel is on the thinner side. Finish has fresh cucumber. The aroma was promising but the taste didn’t follow. So so.

Tap at the Delirium Cafe, Brussels. Charles Quint Ruby @ 9%. Poured a clear dark copper colour with a frothy light tan head and some clingy lace. The aroma is yeast, wild red berry fruit. The flavour is moderate sweet with some sour and bitter notes too. The palate is yeast, over ripe red berry fruit, dry dusty mineral. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

bonkiedeaap (336) - Leerdam, NETHERLANDS - NOV 23, 2014
Bottle from de Bierschuur in Poppel. The beer is ruby red with a cream colored foam and is also highly carbonated. The aroma is pleasant slightly sweet with notes of almond and caramel. In the background a fresh fruitiness of berries. The taste is a nice balance between sweetness and dryness. The tofffee is in harmony with the tones of espresso. In addition, the beer has character. The finish is dry with light bitters.

Mooi donker bier. Moutig en zoetig. Keizer Karel Robijn Rood. Niet te zwaar van smaak.
