Not as good as I expected. It is good, and dark. But it was not so alcoholic in taste as I expected. It was nice after all.

Bottle shared with jerc at Smokeless Joe. Hazy amber-brown with a medium tan head. Mild but well blended aroma of brown sugar, cherry and warm alcohol. Sweet, sugary flavour, quite warm, leading to a dry finish. Pretty nice stuff.

Brown body with a frothy beige head. (3+) Aroma of brown sugar and toffee, hint of booze. Sweet flavour, with dry slightly tart fruit notes. Medium palate. (3+) Pleasant.

Gorbalev (2916) - Ontario, CANADA - DEC 2, 2005
Bottle shared with Blankboy at Smokeless Joe’s. Dark orange, very bubbly white head and body. Slight yeasty aroma - weak. Sweet tasty, lots more yeast. No sign of alcohol. Dry short finish. Not bad.

Bottle shared with tupalev at Smokeless Joe. Pours a clear bubbly dark ruby with a spare light-brown head. Very mild aroma of sweet malt, yeast and sour fruit. Sweet flavour of caramel malt, fruit and brown sugar. I was surprised to see this was 9% as you can’t taste it at all. Medium bodied. Nothing special but a good Belgian Strong nonetheless.

Bottle 33 cl @ 12C. Reddish colour, small head with nice laces. Portwine aroma + some liquorice.. OMG 9% abv! Nicely covered. Dry taste, sticky mouthfeel.

The Lure:
Cherries and star anise develop within the dry, doughy yeastiness. Mineral notes emanate from the earth, and soil the weak caramel.

The Festivities:
Palate is rotund, but feels mostly of added sugars. Licorice and berry jam work well with the doughy yeast, but dry up quickly enough.

Transcendence:
Average impressions don’t last long.

Rastacouere (6126) - Montreal, Quebec, CANADA - OCT 31, 2005
Nice beige 1cm cover, rapidly diminishing. Hazy copper colored. Faint DMS gives the impression of an extreme level of adjuncts. Toffeeish, very sweet nose with bold vanilla-laced liquorice presence. In mouth, the sweetness keeps on, reminding of barley sugar intertwined with straightforward Belgian alcohol that remains well contained. Estery banana/dark fruit yeastiness. Vegetal nature, corny, candyish. Medium airy body, big bubbled and fully sweet.

Bottled. A dark brown coloured beer with a nice coffee coloured head, albeit disappearing too quickly. The aroma is sweet and malty with some strong licquorice notes. The taste is full-bodied with candy sugar, Christmas fruits and some sweet peanut brittle. Really nice.
