reakt (949) - Greater London, ENGLAND - NOV 27, 2006
UPDATED: SEP 2, 2007 Bottle from local offie, Brussels. Clear reddish brown in colour with malty off white head. Fantastic lacing. Nicely spiced nose with notes of cinnamon, apple and alcohol. The taste runs a little flat, which is a shame. It’s shortfall is compensated by sweet hints of caramel, gingerbread and chocolate orange. Long, warm finish likened to amaretto and rum. An appropriate treat for the winter holidays. It has a great deal of potential - if only it wasn’t flat.

Bottle, labelled Keizer Karel Robijn Rood. Dark red-brown colour with a big creamy and lacing offwhite head. Caramel aroma with a somewhat herbal hoppiness. Caramel flavours meet yeasty spiciness. Quite well-balanced. A bit hard on the tongue. Well-made, but not very original.

Reddish tinted dark brown with a froathy light brown head. Soapy metallic aroma. Metallic caramel malt taste but not obvious as some.

Slight hazy dark amber hue, with a small tan-colored head, with a grainy malty nose, with a peaty smokiness accent, sweet caramelized malt, hint of dark fruits fruitiness in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a sweet grainy malty character, with a toffee accent, dark dried fruits of dates, plums, caramelized malt, hint of earthy peaty smokiness, brown sugar, leading towards a sweet malty and alcoholic finish.

[Bottled RBESG] Brownish colour. Bit spicy aroma, along with sweet caramel malts. Medium mouthfeel, with notes of dried dark fruits and a fair bit of sweetness.

Bottled (as Charles Quint Keizer Karel). Dark brown colour, mediumsized brown head. Aroma of dark fruits, malts and spices. Flavour is much more boring, though it contains the same things. Mouthdrying. Some alcohol also noteable, especially after the beer warms up a bit.
