Dark red colored, little yellow head. Spices and mild chocolate in aroma with mild alcohol. Medium to full bodied. Crispily carbonated brew with chocolate and spices, mild alcohol and chocolate fit nicely in aftertaste.

UPDATED: DEC 16, 2006 Stunning! Dark ruby red, bordering on brown with little firm creamy white head that stays troughout the pint. Very fruity aroma with dark fruits (raisins and plums) and a little citric flavour. Amazing creamy mouthfeel! Taste of plums, roasted malts and caramel. Despite its high alc % it is not vinious but still powerful. Lots of coriander and a bit of cinnamon. Some apple in the beginning.

On tap in Brugge. 24/05/06. Keizer Karel. Good size (large) tan head on a cherry red body. Malty aroma then roasted as well as in the taste. Almost chocolatey, hints of burnt caramel, maybe more cocoa.

An amber beer with a light brown head. The aroma has strong notes of cowberres, and some spicy roots which I canít put names to, though some of it is licorice root. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of cowberries, spicy roots, as well as light notes of honey. The alcohol warms the tongue. I have no idea where this came from, but Sofie (Frk_Aabenhuus) was so nice as to share it with me.

A dark amber beer with a small head. The aroma is very lightly sweet and fruity. The flavor is of a good maltblend, with roasted, sweet, and fruity notes - a very complex flavor.

A Mes rate: 33cl bottle from Delhaize supermarket in Belgium. First off seeing as I entered this one I paid attention to the description. Something that I only do when I am adding a beer. Way to go Haacht, pulled out all the stops for that one didnít you? Anyhow, rating ahoy... Hints of the regular CQ in the nose but thankfully without any of those unpleasant fish notes of aforementioned. If you imagine regular CQ without the molluscs and with some soap and cinnamon then you have it just right. Wonderful red brown body but in typical style the head settled quickly to something just below what you would call a thin covering. In the mouth it is like a more tangy version of Chimay Rouge. Much sweeter though and very apparent alcohol. The added orange peel is just there prvoding just a little extra spice. Finish was tarty and slightly acrid. Hoped it would be better but alas no. With the similarities between this and Chimay Rouge and between the Goudblond and Duvel then what is next? A Lindemans Kriek drink-alike?

A Mes rate: Tap @ PBF. If you are lucky you will get it in the original ceramic mug with the 3 handles. Ok first and foremost this smells rather disturbingly of mussels and as I result I found the nose rather unpleasant. Amazing deep tan/red looks. Head settles to thin film and lasts well. Dark fruits, cake and bread and plenty of caramel. Alcohol is not overbearing and itís generally a decent drink. Just canít stop thinking about mussels. Hold your nose!

Bottle. Dark amber coloured with a large off-white head. Malty sweet and fruity. Notes of dark fruit. A bit too sweet for my taste.

The opaque mugs provided with this selection prevented a perfect examination of the appearance, but this one poured with a nice dark brown color and a thick head. The aroma was spicey and the flavor was very spicey: some cinnamon and nutmeg alongside the dark fruits. Mouthfeel was moderate to heavy and very nice.

A dark ruby colour with a fast diminishing white head. The aroma is slightly sweet and fruity. The taste is also sweet and fruity. Just to sweet for my taste. (Bottle 33cl)

Clear red w/ moderated tan head. Carmelized sugar and fruit aroma. Oxidized. Simple caramel flavor with a strong alcohol presence and an unbalanced bitter finish.

Creamy and rather adherent nut head. Dark brown color, enough hazy, loads and with a good fizz. Sweet and alcoholic scent with caramel, toasted malt and cellar notes. Enough prickly wrapping, decided and solid taste. Much alcoholic and perfumed with sweet and little spiced aromas. Good persistence final.
