Bottled from Jumbo, Santiago. Pours a clear golden color with a big white fluffy head that leaves a lacing. Aroma is weird, mostly malty with grains and bread but also some strange notes of vegetables and cheese. Taste is sweet without getting cloying mixed with some distinctive tartness. Original and enjoyable. Although some may find that tart flavor disturbing I think it’s blended well with the rest. Body is moderately big and the texture is oily. It finishes tart leaving a long aftertaste. An original, different Belgian ale.

Very spicy beer. But it is a blonde beer I enjoy and that says a lot. Really not too bad.

Shared a 33cl bottle from Cora (Luxembourg). Pours a clear yellow with almost no head. Aroma is malt and light hop. Medium carbonation and light body. Flavour is bitter turning quickly to a sweet / bitter end. Not bad, but nothing special.

Bottle. 8.5%. Best before 05.03.14. As ’Keizer Karel Charles Quint Golden Blond Øl’. Pours a clear pale yellow with a big, fluffy white head. Good lacing. Tart, almost sour, aroma, at first, but sooths down a bit as it warms. Flowery with notes of yeast and a slight citrus note and a light spicy overtone. Flavour is tart with a white wine-likeness. Fruity, flowery and with a light coriander note lurking in the background. Notes of yeast and alcohol as it warms. Grainy finish with an alcohol burn and a metallic note in the background. Lingering tart and dry notes and more alcohol burn. Grass and remote coriander as well. Overall okay I guess; it’s not really bad, but not doing anything for me either, and the alcohol in the finish is too distinct/unbalanced. 10.10.13.

Clear golden/orange with a small white head. Aroma of peaches, apricots, a bit citrus. Taste is again apricots/fruits, yeasty and some alcohol. Sweet with some bitterness (finish). Nice, but nothing special.

Pours a clear deep golden with an off-white head. Aroma of citrus, yeast, spices and hops. Relatively dry finish. Decent, but unremarkable.

Bottle, 330 ml at home, poured into my tulip glass. ABV 8.5% Pours bright golden orange, clear body, with a tall, white head. Thick density, good retention and heavy lacing left on the glass. Aroma of peaches, apricots. Yeast, sugar. Very typical belgian ale aroma. Taste also typical belgian ale and basically follows the aroma, fruity, yeasty, with obvious alcohol notes offering a warming feeling and a slight burn on the tongue, while enhancing the fruit flavours. Slighty bitter aftertaste. Medium thin body, good carbonation. Nice dryness on the palate, inviting you for another sip. Overall, although not exceptional in any case, it holds its ground well.
