Poured a translucent brown color with an ok head and lacingg that was ok. Aroma on this one was hard to pick up, maybe some toasted malts. The fflavor was an odd liquor type flavor in the front of everything (sorry, I don’t know my liquors, nor can I say this was high abv, but boy, it was liquor sweet and sharp). Bitter nuts picked up mid-glass and as it warmed some sweet type candy came out. Too strong of an odd liquor type flavor in this one to be great.

12 oz bottle. Clear dark mahogany color with bubbly khaki head. Heavy molasses nose that competes for aromatic supremecy with the strong raisin smell. Flavor is roasty and chocolatey with a delicate sweetness. Medium bodied with a flat finish.

Charleston Brown Ale pours to a beautiful deep amber/brown color with a nice tan head that eventually fades, and a moderate amount of carbonation. The nose is very interesting, it is sweet malty and nutty, with a nice back drop of woody/earthy aroma. Can a beer actually smell like mulch? This beer does! And not in a bad way, it is actually quite pleasing. The body on this beer is soft, with some nice sweet malty flavors, a touch of chocolate, a touch of roast, and a nice underpinning of nutty flavors. Charleston Brown finishes with more sweet and nutty flavors up front, and dries with a oaky vinous like note.
A very interesting, and tasty take on Brown Ale. As a seasoned beer hunter, it is always rewarding to find a local gem like this. This beer is indeed hard to find, it is only available in the Carolinas and southern parts of Virginia as far as I know. Seek this beer out if you can find it. I believe it would make an excellent desert beer, I would match this with an ice cream sundae with hot fudge and caramel. This is a nice brew to sit and sip after dinner with, and would make a nice night cap as well.

This brew begins with a sweet caramel aroma and looks like Newcastle with a short-lived creamy head. It is nutty, sweet, and toasty, but lets down with its watery aftertaste.

Somehow, this got packaged with a neckband that has the description of their White ale - wow - you’d be really confused if you read that description and tasted this brew!!!! Reddish-brown and quite clear bodied, short tan head, very little lacing. Aroma is light, with some caramel. Average malty taste with a lingering Nutella nutty finish. This seems to be a mass-market style brewery - this beer should compete well against Newcastle. Found this at Chip’s - Mile post 6 on OBX., 2005

UPDATED: MAR 9, 2006 Dark brown with hints of red, pours a thick wispy tan head. Fruity aroma with some floral hops. Lots of crystal malts make this sweet and biscuity. Medium bodied with malty finish.
