COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Charleston Brown is made with roasted Belgian and Munich Malts and expertly blended with a touch of toasted dark malt. American and British hops yield a balanced flavor - not too sweet - a very complicated and interesting flavor.

A below average nut brown ale. Has an odd, sweet after taste. Not up to the standards of a Newcastle or Brooklyn Brown Ale.

This brew begins with a sweet caramel aroma and looks like Newcastle with a short-lived creamy head. It is nutty, sweet, and toasty, but lets down with its watery aftertaste.

Belgian and Munich malts? Where? Only a slightly roasted and nutty aroma with almost no character in the flavor profile. Again, slight roasted flavors. Malt backbone is not strong and the finish is a bit caramelly. Clear light brown color with very little head. Their web site urges you to compare this to your favorite imported brown. If your favorite imported brown is Newcastle, this has an outside chance of a favorable comparison. Blah.

Kind of watered down. Not much flavor either. A poor brown ale. It seems like they just made this beer to say they have a brown ale in their lineup.

First rate 10/07/02: Deep ruby red color, the head negligible, lace elemental. Nose is malt, carmel hints, somewhat sweet. Front is sweet, the top flimsy, finish is acetose, dry, triflingly hopped, and a low-rate beer, hardly worth putting in a bottle. Does not rank on my current 1000 beer master list.

Thin-ass brown with no body and no redeeming quality.

mein gott in himmel, something is deffinately broken here: i was actually starting to admire this beverage of deep chestnut-- and my sample has a decent head-- but then that SMELL sprang up and bit me. christ, get a muzzle for this beast. the "aroma" is a dead ringer for a sweet pickle. ouch. i don't care for sweet pickles. that pretty much deminished my full enjoyment of this beverage-- about like having a sharp wedge of lumber under my thumbnail-- i just couldn't concentrate on the other qualities-- a thin cherry and woody flavor was cautiously noted, but i can't finish it. what were they thinking? about as "complicated and interesting" as an earwig in your oatmeal.
