COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
While respectfully following the guidelines of this traditional British ale, we added a truly American twist. Using 100% U.S. grown hops throughout the brew, a complex variety of imported and domestic malts, and a truly unique British yeast, the result is a well balanced India Pale Ale. One that exemplifies the classic style, yet brings with it the flavors and aromas of our American hop innovations without forgetting the barley.

Tried the East Bay IPA during a weekend staying aboard the USS Yorktown CV10 in Charleston Harbor. It sure hit the spot after a long day exploring the aircraft carrier and other boats in the fleet. The East Bay IPA pours a clear yellow and goes down smooth. Not the strongest beer for an IPA - it sort of reminds me of a regular pale ale. A good beer on a hot day.

Bottle label indicates this one is from Greenville SC, not Charleston. Perhaps contract brewed by Thomas Creek? Pours a clear copper gold with one finger head of nearly white head. Citrusy and piney hops dominate the nose, with some sweet malt also evident. The flavor largely follows the aroma, with a bit more sweet malt balance than a typical Amer. IPA. Medium body and moderately carbonated.

Bottle. Copper orange beer with a large pillowy head. Fairly strong aroma of grapes and a herbal spiciness. The initial sweet grain flavor leads to a piney bitterness. Feel like it has a lot in common with a Sierra Nevada IPA with some minor positives and negatives.

Bottle. Orange with a small white head. Nose is earthy, hay, citrus. Flavor is pretty weak and I don’t want to drink anymore. Easily forgettable.

Bottle pours clear yellow color with white head. Aroma is pine. Just straight pine. Medium light mouthfeel with the right amount of carbonation. Flavor is more pine and finishes dry. This is a pretty good brew.

Magjayran (1379) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - JUN 4, 2009
Typical golden orange color with a small white head. Aroma hints at bitter hops but seems a little grainy. The flavor is aspirin bitterness with a touch of pine and a cheap graininess.

In short: An unusual and off-putting IPA with boring malts and weird spicy hops.
How: Bottle 12oz. Consumed soon after purchase (I think). Tasting session
The look: Cloudy orange-blonde body topped by a small white head
In long: A bland malt profile with boring dry cereals/hay. Some fruity notes with citrus fruits and an unexpected banana presence. Weird hops, burnt/smoked weed, spicy, floral. Hard to describe really. It was not bad but it was “off”. A beer that is sure help maintain South Carolina status as one of USA top 50 beer states.
