Half Moon Hefe Weizen is an unfiltered beer, naturally cloudy from wheat proteins. The grain in Half Moon Hefe Weizen is half wheat and half barley. Leaving the beer unfiltered retains its character from brewer’s yeast & gives vitality to this invigorating ale. Smooth Hallertau hops provide a fantastic balance of subtle hop taste and aroma, giving you the perfect revitalizer to rejuvenate your day or night.

Poured a clear dark yellow color. The aroma was wheaty with a tart citrusy lemon. It smells like this might be getting an infection. Or should I say has one and growing quickly. Wheaty malt flavor and a light body. Not much going on other than the new life.

The aroma has spice, wheat, and banana. The appearance is golden with a small head and no haze. The flavor is like the aroma. The palate is watery. Overall it’s not bad but a bit of a disappointment.

decaturstevo (4075) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - NOV 9, 2006
A clean golden pour with not head. A weak bannana arom. A slightly off bitter. A thin palate not a terrible beer but not really that good. I just didn’t care much for it.

Boutip (3971) - Gatineau, Quebec, CANADA - JAN 24, 2008
Bottle courtesy of Unclemattie: Poured a clear golden color weizen with a small bubbly white head with minimal retention. Aroma is quiet sour with some light wheat also present. Taste is quite weak with very light notes of wheat and a sour finale. No banana or cloves notes could be noticed. Body is really thin with marginal carbonation. I am glad I was able to try a beer from SC but definitely not a beer I will seek again.

emacgee (3433) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - JUL 13, 2009
Pours a bright hazy peach with a one finger offwhite head. The nose is sweet, some orange rind, a bit one dimensional in what it has, some yeast character. The flavor is sweet, orange rind, crisp, less yeast in the flavor, mild wheat, not super traditional tasting. Not bad just not standout, east to drink on.

obguthr (3225) - Poquoson, Virginia, USA - JUL 1, 2007
Weak aroma of lemon and light grain. Fairly clear amber pour with no head. Watery thin, slight medicne taste but not terribly bad. Some candy and cream notes, but weak. Weak vegetable aftertaste. Did I mention it was weak?

Bottle from Vintage Cellar. Poured a dull yellow; not much head, but visible carbonation streams. Aroma was of yeast and citrus; some banana. Flavor was tart with a dull banana. Thin palate. Forgettable and bland; but not horrendous.

nearbeer (3048) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - OCT 16, 2008
12 oz. Mostly clear, golden with a large head that settles to a lasting ring and leaves some crunchy lace. Sourish yeast and honey aromas. Flavor of honey, wheat, bubblegum and dry grass, with some light lemon. Light body is dryish and slightly watery. Drinkable, but not really much of a hefe.
