Commercial Description:
Half Moon Hefe Weizen is an unfiltered beer, naturally cloudy from wheat proteins. The grain in Half Moon Hefe Weizen is half wheat and half barley. Leaving the beer unfiltered retains its character from brewer's yeast & gives vitality to this invigorating ale. Smooth Hallertau hops provide a fantastic balance of subtle hop taste and aroma, giving you the perfect revitalizer to rejuvenate your day or night.

Flavor is a little bland, some vaguely light fruity flavors, finishing with a different sweet flavor that reminded me of marshmallow. A bit light, even for the style. Not too bad in the summer, but forgettable.

Bottle, pours a urine haze yellow with thin to no head. Aroma is sweet spice banana/rotten fruit. Flavor is typical wheat sweetness that is very watered down. almost no carbonation on the tounge. Small amount of sediment on the bottem. this one was just not that good.

12 oz. Mostly clear, golden with a large head that settles to a lasting ring and leaves some crunchy lace. Sourish yeast and honey aromas. Flavor of honey, wheat, bubblegum and dry grass, with some light lemon. Light body is dryish and slightly watery. Drinkable, but not really much of a hefe.

Bottle. Commercial description states that this "is an unfiltered beer, naturally cloudy from wheat proteins." So, why is this so clear when I pour it into the snifter? What is the deal? Where is the yeast? This looks remarkably like apple juice. I take a sniff. oh boy. Not too great. I don’t get much of the qualities I associate with this style. It’s metallic, soapy, and tart with a dash of sour fruits and faint wheat. I was hesitant to take a sip of this one. But, after I cautiously supped a bit of this beverage I was relieved to find it was a notch better than the aroma had warned me. It seems cleaner with some discernable citrus and far off, extra weak cloves. The finish is tart. I was really hoping for more from this beer. The other two Charleston offerings are at lesat mediocre, this one is barely drinkable. I’m pouring my glass out into a plastic container and making marinade with it.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy gold with a large linen white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass. Pleasant aroma of wheat and lemon. No banana detected. The flavor is very similar with wheat and lemon and no banana. A bit on the sweet side and a bit thin.

04-Apr-08 (12-oz bottle: Obtained in trade with Otter, thanks Jeremy!) Not really much to this beer that makes me want to drink the entire bottle. It’s tastes like a standard American wheat beer with a splash of peppery spice up front and light banana esters in the finish. As the beer warms, it takes on a more bready flavor and makes the palate feel a little stale. Medium in weight and carbonation. Mostly just wheat in the nose with some breadiness and perhaps a little cardboard. Golden in color and somewhat hazy, and carbonation bubbles continue to rise for the duration of the session. The small, off-white head fully dissipates, leaving no lace. A generic wheat beer with a modest hint of German yeast.
