3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
2015 Bottle; Pour is mahogany, with a dense, fine bubbled beige head into this glass. The appearance is nice initially, and as the head fades on this one - all hope eventually does as well. The nose unveils some typical barleywine features - caramel toffee notes, dark fruit presence. However: The flavor profile is harsh up front - bittering, booze, not -quite- off notes but not quite right either - it melds terribly. Thereís some minerality, more dark fruit presence , with candied fruits and I just canít do it. Not because itís a barleywine like the previous rater mentioned - but because itís a poor example of style.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
2015 version. Aroma is disappointing. Boozy, malty and not much else with a faint trace of cardboard. Pours a nice reddish color with a tiny ring of white foam. Taste has elements of fig, plum and raisin. Spicy up front with more sweetness than is typical for the style. Alcohol burn in the aftertaste. Not very complex. Palate is thin and weak. I didnít like this one very much. I should have known this brewery couldnít produce a decent barleywine. I will be aging a few bottles mostly because I donít want to drink them. Hopefully some age will open this one up a bit.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The beer pours a cloudy reddish brown color with a medium off-white head that fades somewhat slowly. The aroma blends grain, alcohol, caramel, and raisin. The taste is mildly bitter, mildly sweet, a touch umami, and a touch boozy. The mouthfeel is soft in carbonation, slick in texture, and medium in body.
