Tasted 6/13/08. 22oz bomber. Filtered with a deep amber hue. Spiraling white head. Honey aromas with hints of strawberries and citrus. Dried figs and a good spicy nose. Full bodied with big and sticky malts. Thick body. Modest burn with slight hops and a bitter finish. Caramel and piney flavors. Blackberry tartness. Graham cracker malt character. Pruney. Good effervescence. Good balance between the malts and hops; sweet and bitter. Solid interpretation and truly enjoyable!

Location: 22 oz bottle from Colonial Wine and Spirits, 4/18/12, 2012 Bottle

Aroma: The aroma is sweet malts, caramel, toffee, fruity notes, a little spice, and hints of molasses.
Appearance: A clear copper-brown colored beer with a small, lasting beige head and sheeting (disappearing) lace.
Flavor: This one tastes pretty sweet, malty first, then dark fruity flavor, and later some spice. Fairly unbalanced.
Palate: It is medium-full bodied, somewhat sticky, and with a hint of heat (but at 10.5% the alcohol is well hidden).
Overall Impression: This one has a pretty interesting and complex mix of malty and sweet flavors to it. I would have liked for the hops, which are hardly present, to be a little more prevalent, but somehow the unbalance works here. Somehow, the 10.5% is really well hidden, which could get dangerous quickly. A quality offering.

Thanks to Dak for this. Copper brown pour. Sweet malt, caramel, toffee aroma. Clean sweet malt, caramel and spicy earthy hops in the taste. Hint of fruit in the finish. good stuff.

New barleywine rate! Thanks Dak. Pours clear amber with tan head. The aroma offers up musty chewy sweet malts followed by mild molasses and dark fruity ester notes. The taste has sweet chewy malts to start and quickly picks up some molasses along with apricot, plum and raisin like sweet fruity notes. Around the edges of the flavor experience are thin rings of floral and earthy like hops. Overall this is a bit rough and could use some cellar time to blend it and even it out. It is still pretty tasty today.

Sampler at the W&C in Ballwin, Mo. It poured a dark brown color with a tan head. The aroma was of dark toffee, caramel, malt, and possibly hops. The flavor was lots of toffee. There was also some hops hints. Very decent Barleywine.

From a bottle shipped to me by Strykzone in a trade. What a beer. Kept refrigerated until consumed on Christmas Eve at about 48 degrees. The beer poured from the 22 oz bottle a dark mahogany with a fat off-white head and good lacing rings. The nose is of ripe dark fruit with hints of some spices. Solid body and a very rich and creamy mouthfeel. The flavor is very rich and contains all sort of ripe fruit flavors like raisins, figs, dates, plums, and prunes. The alcohol is very well hidden and unobtrusive. If finished with a nice bitterness you expect from a quality barley wine. This is exceptional, and I feel very fortunate to have been blessed with a bottle.

UPDATED: JAN 9, 2011 Draft at International Tap House-Soulard, served in a snifter. Pours a deep, dark, mostly clear ruby amber color with a small beige head. Very attractive. Aroma of toffee, brown sugar, caramel malts, raisins, craisins, apples, vanilla, milk, and toast. Flavor of cherry cough syrup, raisins, caramel malts, applesauce, honey, maple syrup, and earth. Starts more fruity and finishes sweeter and maltier. Medium-full bodied, with moderate carbonation and a malty mouthfeel. This is a really nice barley wine, and a really pleasant surprise.

Pour is a nice dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is a very nice sweet malt with some brown sugar and molasses. Flavor is all things dark fruit and earthy malt. Some brown sugar is left on the tounge as this goes down. For 11% or whatever this is, the alcohol is no where to be found. A very flavorful and drinkable barleywine
