4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pour is a super deep mahogany. Half an inch of coffee colored head, gone quickly. Not much lacing to speak of. Nose is coffee, cocoa, banana, pineapple, dried stone fruit, bit of oak. Palate is lush, carbonated, and a little creamy. The flavors come in waves. First banana esters, plum and chocolate, then tart cherry and chocolate, followed by vanilla, more dark fruit, coffee notes, more chocolate, a little malty sweetness, and the faintest hint of alcohol. Really interesting brew. Terrifyingly drinkable at 10.5 abv.

4.3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A really good dessert beer. More chocolate than quad, but there is some nice slick spicyness here. Hints of dark fruit behind the dominant chocolate. Tried at the Parkville microbrew fest in 2015.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A black hole body flashes very dark mahogany highlights at the edges, and supports a quickly fading frothy-smooth khaki head creating a solid ring with a pair of falling peninsulas of lace
This perfectly named ale offers mellow, well integrated aromas and flavors with an emphasis on cream and chocolate with mildly sweet fruit in the date and banana range, Belgian effervescence lightens with accents of subdued spice, smoke, wet wood, caramel, and white dough on a creamy, silky, smoothly carbonated medium body with a flash of stronger banana esters leading to a banana split residual with solid duration from a creamy smooth coating, an echo of vanilla rolls through the finish as this warms further creating the true box of chocolate effect with a nuance of cherry cordial
A very well executed stout-meets-quad dessert beer with well controlled sweetness and excellent texture

Reddish brown appearance with a small, tan head. Belgian chocolate, light candy sugar, light caramel, chocolate aroma. A touch tangy, Belgian yeasty, dark milk chocolate, candy sugar, dark fruity, plum, raisin flavor. Sweet dessert beer that’s pretty nice.

2.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
I’m not sure if it’s just my own palate or the beer itself, but this is too bourbon-buttery for me. Not enough real chocolate and thick body to hold it together as a legitimate chocolate ale. Too thin and bitterish and artificial tasting. As if they brewed a quad and then added in some chocolate flavor. Meh.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours out a very dark brown color with a thin light tan head. Smells like chocolate but fake, not all that convincing. Also has a boozy scent and some roasted malt. The chocolate in the taste is more real than it is in the aroma. Reminiscent of hot chocolate with a slight amount of booze heat at the end. The Belgian quad qualities do not really shine through all of that chocolate but it is dangerously easy to drink for 10.5. More like a chocolate brown ale. Unique, worth a try.
