Formerly known as Charleville Double Chocolate Belgian Quad.

It’s difficult to express love’s nuances much like the complexity of this Belgian style chocolate quad. You might use a box of chocolate to express your love; we use it to demonstrate our passion for great beer.

Draft served in a snifter at International Tap House in Soulard. Pours an opaque dark brown color with a small beige ring for a head. Very surprised this is a quad based on what it smelled and tasted like. Aroma is heavy on dark and baker’s chocolate notes, along with vanilla, dark fruits, woody and earthy notes, caramel, and booze. Almost smells like a bourbon barrel-aged beer. Flavor carries a little more of the quad characteristics, with more fruity, earthy notes and some yeast to go with the heavy dose of chocolate. Some warming alcohol late. Medium-bodied, with a sweet, boozy mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. It seems like I keep finding these surprisingly great Charleville beers at iTap and I hope that trend continues.

Dark brown with very little head. Smells of dark fruit, sweet cherries, belgian candied sugars, and chocolate. Raisins, chocolate, and black cherries very smooth and creamy as well. Mouthfeel is rather thick and coats well. Finish is chocolate covered cherries.

Bottle shared by Derek. Pours a deep black with purple and crimson highlights and a thin beige head. Aromas of slightly alkaline cocoa powder. Soft cocoa and chocolate. Great aromas. Tastes like hot chocolate, warm cocoa powder, smooth and sweet. Very nice. A touch of warmth on the finish, spicy with a bit of yeast and more cocoa.

Draft. Pour is a deep brown with a thin tan head. Aroma is interesting for sure. Notes of cocoa powder, very sweet chocolate, milk shake, faint note of fruit, and a touch spice. Flavor is bittersweet chocolate, very lightly roasted malt, cocoa, cheap chocolate truffle, and a touch of holiday spice. Certainly not for everyone and very potent. One glass is plenty.

Pours deep brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of tootsie rolls. Flavor is very chocolatey...also a bit like tootsie rolls...mildly fruity but chocolate dominates. Mouthfeel is full and silky with a nice slightly sweet chocolate finish that warms a bit. Nice beer.

Bomber. Dark pour with a quickly dissipated head. Nose is some chocolate but not as much as expected. Also some of the typical quad notes of dark fruit, bready malts, and raisins. Taste is totally different in that the chocolate is very pronouced and the Quad characteristics take a back seat but they are there. Interesting beer to say the least ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22oz bottle pours an opaque, mahogany brown with some creamy, white head. Nose is straight chocolate, brewers licorice, some rye malt maybe, Hershey’s syrup. Flavor is 100% milk chocolate, light vanilla, Hershey syrup, dark chocolate, some crystal malt. Full bodied, chocolatey finish. Delivers exactly what it promises.

This nicely labeled 22oz bottle even looks like a fancy box of chocolates. Poured a dark brown color with a small, tan head. Aroma was heavy on the sweet milk chocolate variety, with some cocoa, and a touch of roasted malty notes. Flavor was quite enjoyable - I am particularly reminded of a canned chocolate soda that I used to drink as a kid and haven’t probably had in 20 years, but if this didn’t remind me of that one in the flavor and palate. Quite nice.
